He's the Lebron insurance , an expensive one but it what it is .

He allows Lebron to load manage during games and play more off ball .

Dennis would be more useful on the bench .

Overall I'm not sure he's a player I would want on this team post Lebron era

I agree that Schroeder would be much more ideal off the bench not as a demotion but his skillset is redundant with both Lebron and Gasol in the starting lineup. You don't need a playmaker

He'd be a much better fit with Harell off the bench and you can just spam PnR's and you end up also maximizing Harell as well. At this point have to trust Vogel as he plays the long game but Schroeder as I've been saying is ideal in Dragic role that Miami used to exploit everybody last year. Teams and player just aren't mentally prepared to have to contend with that much firepower at the PG spot when they have whole game plans designed to stop an elite starting unit as well.

Basically, that was my position since the beginning of the season. I love what he brings to the team, but he's better when he's playing with Trez, there is some synergy going on there. Bron+Gasol is plenty of playmaking; with Dennis starting, he just ends up taking shots away from AD, who is out of rhythm later in the game because of it. I'm almost positive Schroeder would actually score more if he wasn't starting. Just play Alex or Wes instead and let Bron be the PG. Then bring the "scoring duo" off the bench and let them cook.

I see both sides of the argument to him starting or being the sixth man. I think I lean off the bench. But if starting is something that we need to keep him happy, I don't think it necessarily makes us a worse team.

Lakers have the highest efficiency rating with those 5 starting in the NBA. Lakers have the best record in the league.

You want to change the starting line up why now?

More than the issue of starting at this point which we are clearly doing for what he wants and probably to save some wear and tear on Lebron, I just greatly prefer AC Fresh as closer. Dennis has had some issues down the stretch and AC is clutch.

That's a given. I think I can speak for the entire board when I say the ideal situation is AC Fresh plays 96 minutes a game as we cloned him so he can play both guard spots..

    December 2020: 29.6 mins, 17.6 pts, 5.2 rebs, 5.2 assists, 0.6 assists, 3 TOs, 50% FG, 39% 3s in 5 games

    Jan 2021: 32 mpg, 12.5 pts, 3.5 rebs, 4.1 assists, 1.5 stls, 2.0 TOs 37% FG, 27% 3s in 11 games

2020 Danny Green in Catch and Shoot: 36% FG, 37% 3pt
2020 Schroder in Catch and Shoot: 44% FG, 41% 3pt

2020 playoffs Danny Green in Catch and shoot: 33% FG and 33% 3pt (All of them were 3s)
2020 playoffs Schroder Catch and Shoot: 28.6% FG and 29.6% 3pt.

To be a viable fit next to Lebron/AD (especially in the closing unit), these guys need to be a good catch and shoot type player...right now 32% FG and 27% 3s in catch and shoot situations for Dennis.

The guy needs the ball in his hands ALOT to score because he's not good at catching and shooting. The only way he can score a lot without hurting our all stars is if he comes off the bench

Schroder is at his best when he gets absolute freedom with the ball. I'm not sure if he's being maximized right now as a starter and being part of the finishing lineup. Dennis vs other teams 2nd units can be very effective, I hope our team takes a look at that option and considers him there. We have guys behind him who take fewer shots than him and more efficient and fit better. Right now AD doesn't look right either. But Harrell/Schroder have clicked very well since day 1, I would like to see more of that in the 2nd unit

I wonder if he's pressing because Feb. 16 is an important date for him when it comes to contract raises/extension.

It's a fair question, but my answer would be: because we can be even better.

The change will be important to optimize Bron and AD coming playoffs so I would say it has to happen when there are 25-30 games left .

Dennis kind of brought him on himself by not wanting to come off the bench

Shooting 37% in 12 games in January ...

i'll repeat that i don't think he goes to the bench until the contract situation is settled one way or the other. at that point, we'll do what's best for the team instead of making sure he's happy. of course, maybe they think that's best for the team in either case as well.

What is this extension business? Is he like holding a gun to our heads on it?

I honestly didn't like his attitude coming in saying he's a starter...especially when it was blatantly obvious he would be better coming off the bench.

I think he's been surprisingly good on defense, so that's why he's stuck in the starting lineup so far. But man, we would be way better with him off the bench and starting either caruso or matthews instead. Schroder/Harrell just makes too much sense...and they can play faster with Harrell, Morris, Kuzma, Schroder and either Caruso or Matthews (whoever doesn't start).

I think Wes's numbers would go up if he was starting, and so would Schroeder's if he was coming off the bench. This is a logical swap, and Wes would have many opportunities to shoot the 3 (he's over 38% for the year), stretching the floor with KCP, and with Bron+Gasol as playmakers (not to mention Pope can do some basic PG duties if absolutely necessary).

I think Dennis and the FO agreed they would wait until February to sign that extension. We'll see what happens very soon. Right now, keep him in the starting 5 so everyone's happy is the plan IMO.

    This was on Jan. 7

    https://lakersnation.com/dennis-schroder-fair-contract-extension-lakers-impressed/2021/01/07/

He can put up huge numbers coming off the bench but the Lakers have the leverage now. His defense has been outstanding but his offensive numbers rather pedestrian

Caruso has missed time due to COVID and doesn't get as many minutes next to AD/Bron but he's right there with Dennis

    Per 36 numbers

16.1 pts, 4.6 rebs, 5.2 assists for Dennis
11.2 pts, 5.1 rebs, 4.6 assists for Caruso

    Per 100 possessions

    ORTG 102 DRTG 106 Dennis
    ORTG 119 DRTG 102 Caruso

I have no idea. Depends on injury situation, team standings, chemistry, etc. 7 out of the next 12 games are on the road, its a good way to evaluate what he can do.
