They are going to re-sign all of them, then work with Trez next, see what he wants.

My thought process with Caruso is you're not going to get a player like him easily in the free market. The chemistry he has with everyone on/off the court and never once complaining about minutes and just going out 100% in his role shows his unselfish nature. I mean, Kyrie broke COVID protocol to go to his sister's birthday and Caruso missed his sister's wedding to be with his team in the bubble. He had permission to go to his sister's wedding but chose the team. When he's out on the court, you can feel confident that Caruso will make the correct play 99% of the time.

Part of why I don't think re-signing Schroder is a huge priority for the Lakers is because A) The entire reason we wanted Schroder was mainly because we knew we could get rid of Danny Green and B) I don't think there is a shortage of players who can do what Schroder does at some degree. Don't get me wrong, Schroder has his upside and is young but do we really think he can take it up a notch when LeBron hits 38? I don't think so or at least, don't have enough confidence that he could carry that load when needed. He's like going to get that $23-24 million per year deal. At that money, I think the Lakers can find veteran stars who would be willing to take a discount. Caruso could start and then give THT more minutes. Keeping Schroder isn't a priority, IMO. Keeping Caruso is.

I agree. I would be fine with keeping all three of Schroder / AC / THT, but my personal priority would be THT / AC / ... Schroder.

Folks can say they prioritize keeping AC or THT or even Trez but that doesn’t change the fact that the Lakers FO is making Schroder’s extension THE priority. I think this will happen by all accounts after February 15th. The other three will be dealt with later. So yeah actually keeping DS is going to be in fact the priority.

Article to my point from the LA Times:

    Text of the week
“What’s Dennis Schröder’s contract negotiation status? Will we be able to keep him past this year?”

    Víctor from Dallas

Good question. Schröder’s extension is something that’s come up umlaut. OK, that’s awful.

    No more German puns allowed.

Schröder’s extension is essentially on hold until February, when the Lakers can give him a richer deal. There are rules inside the NBA’s collective bargaining agreement limiting a team’s ability to reward players with extensions right after a trade.

All signs point to one getting done — $20 million a year seems like a reasonable number — Schröder showing that he’s the capable playmaker, shot creator and defensive pest they hoped he would be when they acquired him from Oklahoma City.

The Lakers’ starters have been a dominant group together this season, and Schröder deserves some of the credit.

came here to say AC was the mvp down the stretch. not only hit the big three, but was just making plays everywhere on both ends, per usual--tipping passes, covering teammates' mistakes, rebounding, and penetrating the defense when everyone else seemed ok with iso jumpers.

AC is priority 1 to resign between THT, Schroder and Trez.

Him and KCP are the Lakers secret weapons right now. Both are playing well above any expectations.

Kind of annoying he gets labeled as just a fan favorite when he really is one of the best defensive guards in the league: both on and off ball he's just so smart
Throw in that he seems to get to every loose ball and is hitting opens 3's, he's one of the most underrated players in the league (outside of the Lakers fanbase).

If he was on Warriors the national media would be singing his praising as another elite roleplayer

i honestly think it's because he doesn't look the part is all. people can't get over the novelty and see that he's beating your team's a** six ways from sunday, and it's not a random occurrence. every doom thread from cookie has people like "the social studies teacher is killing us". he kills everyone. he was made in a role-playing guard lab to destroy schnazzier folks who look good but don't contribute to winning.

AC is Bruce Bowen without the douche baggery. And he can hit free throws. So, he's gonna be Bruce Bowen on juice.

side note from that game: the league really has trouble officiating giannis. he's fast, but people know where he's going, so there are a LOT of opportunities for charge calls. down the stretch last night, i thought they (only one was him, i think) had two pretty clear charges that went uncalled and really shifted momentum and made it a close game.

anyway, this is the caruso thread, so, yeah: he's good at getting to his spots defensively and on the boards.

How can AC be playing above your expectations when the expectation was he would be turning water into wine and healing lepers?
