I don't know how this team turns out with Ty Lue instead of Vogel but I am glad Vogel has had the opportunity to prove himself and gain that respect. It didn't seem like there were many coaching opportunities for him but I can bet he's going to get offers once his contract is up. Completely professional and it seems he's been able to be honest to the players about their role instead of lying to them like some coaches do.
Hopefully we are able to hitch him to AD's wagon. He'd be as dumb to leave as we'd be to get rid of him. Best coach we have had since Phil and considering all the downright awful ones we had to go through, I give Vogel a 10 year deal.
We should hold onto him for sure especially with all of the turnover we’ve had with terrible coaches during the Jimbo era.
I want Vogel to try a small ball geek and freak lineup: AD, Lebron, THT, KCP, and Caruso. 3 guys who are literal freaks with ridiculous length in AD, LEbron, and THT and then two smart hustle defenders in KCP and Caruso.
A little surprised he had to call out the bench. We had the best cheerleading bench in the entire NBA last year. Are we missing McGee and Dwight that much in that regard?
We haven’t had a coach I don’t really think about since like, I don’t even know, maybe 2009 Phil Jackson. I mean that as a compliment, I don’t often find myself questioning Vogel’s lineups and such, because even if one isn’t working that usually means we won’t see it again as soon as in the 2nd half of that game, if not by the next game. No he’s not a perfect coach, there’s no such thing, but dude is almost reassuring in a way, I know what we’re gonna get, and if we mess up I know he’s going to try to fix it next game. He has the ability to do the obvious thing even if it isn’t what a lot of coaches would do, like give AC way more time with LeBron last year because it worked, and find minutes for THT this season because he deserves them. I guess after a run of coaches like Mike Brown, Mike ‘Antoni, Byron Scott, and Luke Walton, if feels great to finally have a good coach. I wanted every single one of those other coaches out by year 2 at most. Vogel seems to get along with all the players, he and the veterans seem pretty collaborative, I’m pretty sure he’s had the least friction with LeBron that any coach ever had (as in none that we know of), and he never gives horrible press conferences about needing grit or making aw shucks self depreciating jokes after bad losses. He just gives straight and calm answers and we move on.
What was the context with that bench comment? Maybe he meant like on the floor, playing-wise? More aggressive and active etc... I would also be surprised if he did in fact mean the bench to participate more w cheering...
Here's the interview. Starts around 1 minute in. His answer directly follows him discussing team chemistry
Coach of the Year. Last year, you can say he had LeBron+AD. This year, he's coaching new lineups with new players and not a single player seems to be upset. The way he has this team bought in is incredible to see. Usually you see players get upset with playing time. I've not seen it. Time for the league to show Vogel the credit he deserves... Not every coach can do what he is doing.
Vogel interview said they had to adjust to slow down Ingram in the second half. Translation: have Davis cover him.
He and Rob MUST have respect put on their names. If they give it to a draft pick collecting GM, I'll lose it. But there's no one close in the COY race. NO ONE.
Rob Pelinka = Executive of the Year Frank Vogel = Coach of the Year Lebron James = MVP Anthony Davis = Defensive Player of the Year Montrezl Harrell = 6th Man of the Year Alex Caruso = Most Improved Player of the Year Los Angeles Lakers = 2021 NBA World Champions Lebron James = Finals MVP
I’d be amazed if he gets COTY. The voters are always just going to point to Bron (then proceed to NOT give him MVP) and disregard how good of a coach he is. Vogel absolutely deserves it this year, but unfortunately, I don’t think there’s much chance to he wins it.
Bron ain't the MVP because he has AD and Vogel, Vogel ain't the COTY because he has Lebron and Davis and Davis ain't the DPOTY because he has Lebron and Vogel and Jeannie Buss is not the owner of the year because she inherited the team from Jerry and she is just lucky.
