Seems like he should be getting more assists and creating for others, honestly. That pick-and-roll action is always money but Schroder looks it off and forces a less efficient shot. I hope he cleans it up. He's more than capable of averaging 6-7 assists per game and getting others more involved.
Mr. Shroeder! He is actually an excellent on-the-ball defender, on par with Bradley. Very surprising.
This is the main (and really only issue) I have with his game, he's putting up too many low percentage mid range floaters instead of finding a shooter. It's ok in a sense, Lakers needed a true scorer and you have old man LeMagic but to be in full Dragic mode and to open up passing lanes he's got to keep his head up and lose the tunnel vision
i'll echo my sentiments from the trez thread: this is why we could get him. he's not really a pg. he's a small scoring guard who can defend pgs. this is great if you have lebron or marc gasol or other players that can play this way (schroder and lonzo could play together, for example). he still reminds me a bit of jason terry, and i hope the career arc is the same (moving from miscast as a starting pg on bad teams to comfortably filling role of scoring guard on winning teams).
His January shooting numbers are terrible. I'm OK with him slumping because Bron can coast a bit and he's been picking up the D... at times. But if he isn't going to drive when he won't shoot cause there's no confidence in the J, then you have to go to the bench. Still not sold on him as our starter. I want to see Marc, AD, KCP, Wes, Bron starting 5 for at least a 5 game run. I think Schröderand Trez need each other and handcuffing them should boost each of their strengths offensively. Nights like last night should have been a game where they come in and carry us.
I hate to say it but Schroder has been God awful the past four games. He's missing wide open shots, taking ill-advised floaters over three players, not making the correct pass to get OTHERS involved... he started the season really well but has been awful lately. He's too focused on being a scorer and while I'm okay with that, he's very good at creating for others which in turn, would help him get better shot opportunities. Forcing bad shots isn't going to help this team. None of these games would be close if Schroder showed out. He's the one guy who I am watching and saying to myself is hurting the Lakers when he's out there. And I'm a huge fan of his game but it's got to be better.
I'm still glad we traded for him,, but yeah, the last few games have been meh. What's interesting is his D is better than expected and his offense worse than expected. Maybe just a mini-shot slump. I do agree though that he is best suited for the the 6th man role.
He really needs to watch some film as he needs to be finding the corner 3 more once he gets into the lane. I like him and his defense has been a pleasant surprise but he gets stuck in no mans land with blinders on too many times on his drives. Those floaters and high off glass shots look great when they go in but he misses a lot of these and when you look the defense is totally collapsed
I'm looking forward to the day when he comes off the bench. Not sure it will happen though because of the politics. We can't demote him (in his eyes) until we have negotiated his deal (sounds like some time February?). And you don't want to demote him right after that because he'll have just signed and won't be happy being relegated to reserve status. It's a little sticky. When he was playing really well it looked peachy but he's reverting to the mean now and it's not great. Perhaps we are really missing the balance of having KCP out there with him though in the backcourt. His return might get Dennis back on track.
we'll sacrifice games to make him feel like he got a fair shot at being a starter, imo. last night was probably one of them. i'll be watching once his extension date passes--that's when you'll know what the staff thinks about his fit/role.
I think he might need longer than that, he’s not a good fit with the starters to me. Would be better off the bench with the ball in his hands and the green light. Matthews looked much more effective with LeBron
I like Schroeder's game and what he brings to the team. Great scorer, not a bad playmaker, better defender than advertized... fun to watch too. With that said, I think everyone would benefit from him leading the 2nd unit. His numbers would not be any worse, and would likely be even slightly better. We should try Bron/Pope/Wes/AD/Gasol when everyone is healthy.
Makes Bron full time point guard again though until one of Shroeder, AC or THT check in. But agree that could be a strong starting lineup.
and honestly, it's a compliment. he's the one non-AD/lebron guy who can carry an nba offense for a few minutes. feel like we waste him a bit with the starters. it might hurt both him and gasol, tbh. i'm a fan of the proposed gasol/AD/lebron/kcp/matthews starting lineup (i'd consider the eagle for matthews in some cases, too). but i'm just a message board jockey. this team and staff has earned a lot of leeway with the title and all...
They have. Two things I really enjoy with this staff... 1) best idea wins out. Vogel gets input from everyone, asks Bron and AD what they think and goes from there. 2) He's not married to any one lineup, starting or bench unit. He's not afraid to tinker until he finds the most successful combo that he likes. And they've been mostly right with their decisions. So they get a lot of rope and leeway to figure this out. There's definitely less pressure of figuring it out quickly when you're first vs. outside the playoffs looking in.
