hollinger wishful thinking, imo. "virtually" is doing a lot of work here. the league won't make it impossible for a team to keep their homegrown talent, which is why the arenas rule exists. imagine if, say, the charlotte hornets had to lose a player of THT's caliber due to pure finances. the fans would riot.

hollinger hopes we won't keep him (and that someone will make a huge offer). but i think we'll go into the lux tax for a couple years so as not to let a good 20 year old player walk.

i love these speculative pieces that pretend that nothing else can possibly change between now and FA, btw. who says the whole team is here? who says we don't move someone else who's under contract for picks and space?

much like the AD situation, i trust that our FO knows what they're doing and hollinger doesn't.

I love THT, but this is my prayer. Kuz, THT, KCP for Beal. Make it happen Rob.

Such a unique player: he was bit out of control on offense but still able to hit the open 3 and then his defense was great.

Lakers have to find a way to keep him or he should be a bookend for a blockbuster trade. He's got the potential to be a defensive 1st team All NBA at the 1. How many guards can legitimately called a rim protector?

doesn't matter. hollinger says we'll lose him if he's good. and he should know. he's failed as both a sportswriter and a general manager.

Problem with that is THT isn't going to get enough minutes to be a 20/5/5 player we know he can develop to. Beal+AD+Bron would be a perfect fit for all three.

It is so hard to work out 3 stars on the floor. One of them is going to have to take a major step back. Unless Lebron shows he's slowing down a lot and has big injury questions I would roll with our current team that has depth in every position with versatile players

Don't get me wrong Beal is nice but AD/Bron are high usage guys who need to get into rhythm, Beal would basically have to play like Klay with limited looks and high production expected

Guess he got the memo from Vogel. Quite the turnaround in his next outing

Some quotes from the leaders about him

Mixed bag from THT tonight. Some awesome finishes at the rim then some missed chippies. Some nice plays and then some out of control ones. Growing pains in his sophomore year of the NBA. To be expected. Good to see him play through it all though and generally add to the bench.

He's just has so little experience. It also feels like he's still figuring out how to use his body like a kid who just finished a growth spurt.
It's a bit scary as you don't know what he could be - if he continues to lose some weight and convert that into muscle sky is really the limit for him

Teams start to game plan for you, then you have to adjust. He still made some nice plays. Not bad in the end.

For his mass which will get stronger each year as he gets older and into his prime ... 6 ... or ... 7 years from now, he’s already pretty quick and/or fast.

Lakers are already winning it this year if there isn't a major injury. But Beal? s***. Just cancel the season and give 18 to the Lakers.

Watching teams double off of Beal or Schroder onto either AD or Lebron would be hilarious to watch.

Caruso and KCP might return very soon. This might be THT's last legit run with the rotation for a while, hope he makes the best of it

Again some growing pains out there but overall pretty effective. Love the chase down block. Also the reverse layup on the two bigs. And the mid-air, mid reverse assist over to Wes Jr. for the three. Some good stuff, some not so good stuff. All part of the learning curve.

This pass was crazy. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a pass like this, and now slowed down you can see he went from shot to pass all on the fly.

I'm 100% convinced THT is going to develop into a very good and possibly great player. He has shown flashes of every facet; shooting, handles, driving, playmaking, passing, rebounding, defense.

And he is our 11th man in the rotation.

We're winning games while getting him valuable experience that he can build off of.

Good or bad - he's going to learn from these minutes and we're going to reap the benefits later on as a result.

    Win-win.
