Harell is not a good defender though: the Blazers hunted him down just like Denver did in the playoffs.
I'm completely ok with Vogel experimenting and getting a feel for what the roster can (honestly he's almost got too much talent on this team) but the team and Harell better not get into their heads that Harell is an automatic 4th quarter player.

I know, my point was I expected AD to protect the rim because he was playing where Harrell was in the 2nd. But he didn’t, Kanter abused him too, it was ugly. And yes like I said I know Harrell isn’t good on defense, but I don’t think Morris is much better and closing lineups with him and AD worked in the playoffs, so figured AD could hide him. But, I guess AD isn’t quite right or something because his overall defense was poor, and it’s not like he doesn’t know how to play it, somethings gotta be up.

yeah, i think AD isn't 100%. not sure why we're playing him if so, though. it's not helping us win.

I agree. If he's not ready to play, he should not be playing. For all his talent, having someone who is 100% healthy and energized out there instead of AD will be more productive.

Yeah please sit him out - dunno why Lakers are deciding to play him 36 minutes in game 4 of 72 just 71 days removed from the NBA finals. Please protect our investment and REST AD as much as we can as we have the luxury of resting him and not really missing a beat (see sunday vs the wolves)

It's also tactics and not just personnel: notice Harell was playing 5 on defense. He was guarding Nurkic on the PnR.

There is big difference in how the defense was set last year
-regular season: Dwight was at the 5
-post-season: AD would be on Nurkic and Morris was guarding the 4s. Morris guarding the 5 wouldn't work either but the Lakers didn't play it like this last year

The Lakers at their best play on a string and it's hard to do that with Harell in there and at the 5: i think again this is basically trying to eat up regular-season minutes to save wear and tear on AD but it would be nice to get homecourt as well

Yeah the whole point of getting Trez was that he's a good fit next to basically any other big we have because of those bigs ability to guard the other team's best big...but if you're having Trez guard the other team's best big and that big happens to also be a center (like Nurkic or Kanter)...then you're asking for trouble.

If you're rolling with Trez, make sure he's guarding the lesser of the bigs. We're falling into the Doc Rivers trap last year in the playoffs when he played Trez out of position on defense.

Montrezl is a very productive bench player. But I don't know if he alleviates AD's workload late in games.

he does it like he did against dallas--by outscoring second units so badly that AD doesn't have to come back in. but yeah, playing him with AD isn't really the idea, imo, particularly in crunch time. honestly, AD at center and lebron at pf (or even morris) is probably the blueprint for the last 5 minutes of any close game. though i'd give gasol an extended chance as our closing unit big, too, as he's got a lot of experience in those situations for winning teams.

So is AD basically going to be a 20/8/3 player for the rest of the season?

AD looks like the star that just turned 36, not Lebron

I agree with most of you. He seems... off... he isn’t really into it.

Maybe something happened personally? Or maybe there really is an injury holding him back.

Despite the win against a poor team, and I realize it’s early on... we don’t seem THAT good.

Perhaps it’s the bald eagle effect...

Again, he needs to sit until he feels 100%.

I don't think he's injured or anything as much as he's trying to let the other dudes on the team get their opportunity. He's very efficient on the floor so it's just a matter of him wanting to take more shots. So far, he hasn't had to because the Lakers have gotten offense elsewhere. He does seem a bit disengaged defensively.

I think he does look a little gimpy. He’s definitely not 100% IMO.

I agree @lakerjones, he doesn't look right. Maybe it's the heel injury he had in the finals.

He did have that calf contusion v the Slippers in game one. I think that was the reason they gave for him sitting v. Minny.

I think the Samson effect is going on. Hear me out guys.

Samson had incredible strength until his hair was cut. (Bible story everyone knows right?)

I think AD plucked some eyebrows. It’s the source of his strength.

leave them alone!!! No plucking or even trimming even if you look like Karl Marx!

LOL was trying to find some funny cow calf fail and be stupid with "calf 'concussions' are a b****"

But came across this. Talk about a cat not being self aware of its capabilities.
