Rich Paul is going to have a problem on his hands. J.R. and Waiters are both his clients and they'll likely not be re-signed by the Lakers. Where will they go? Waiters is prob a vet minimum player and J.R. is definitely not playing in the NBA again. At least they both got their rings but they basically contributed nothing.
Well with Waiters, I think a big part of that was his groin injury. I’m not sure if he was even healthy enough to play in the playoffs, and if he was, the injury threw off his ability to get into rhythm so of course Vogel wasn’t going to suddenly throw him into the playoff rotation. I thought he did look impressive as a bench scorer in the early bubble games. His defense was bad, but I think more time to get used to our schemes and develop chemistry would result in him at least being serviceable. I think re-signing Waiters for the minimum could very well end up being something we look back on as a steal. On the other hand ... I don’t want to cast aspersions on the guy’s character, but he doesn’t strike me as the brightest or most responsible person. And that’s actually going to be a factor next year since there won’t be a bubble. Gotta make sure we don’t have too many players that can’t resist the LA nightlife scene and end up tracking Covid back into the locker room.
I won't disagree with you on Waiters but since the Lakers are coming off a championship and the only reason we took Waiters was because we were missing Bradley and needed another backup in case a key rotational player is injured, there won't be a shortage of replacement players in free agency. Darren Collison is still at play here.
Lakers can pay KCP what he wants without it counting towards the cap. He's not going anywhere if it's about the money.
Rob will talk them out of it with the FOs 2021 plan in place. Rich Paul learned with the Detroit KCP and Dallas Noel debacles where his less than deserving clients rejected big paydays. Now with the cap not increasing anytime soon, Klutch will have to play ball with the Lakers regarding KCP, where they accept what Rob offers or sign somewhere else.
Damn you, I panicked for a split second just seeing this thread get bumped. Was worried that we had re-signed him until I remembered we filled our roster
I was hoping we'd give him a shot... Creative scorer off the dribble and shown he can hit open teammates too. ???
