Yeah, I have to take back what I said before. Kuz as a starter isn’t going to work. We saw some of this in the Finals, he can tend to get passive when he is out there with Lebron and AD. It doesn’t seem to be a skill or fit thing, it’s a mental thing. We don’t have time to work through that when the roster is this deep and we have such an obvious DG replacement in Wes Jr who does exactly what we need with 3 and D. Kuz has to figure things out off the bench unless Lebron or AD are out for some reason.

I don't think he and AD will ever work. But I think he can thrive in a sizeable role next to Trez and Schroder, at least for this season.

Do not like this one at all rob. He hasn’t earned anything and hasn’t played well or consistently. This is an F grading.

Seems inevitable it was going to happen and around where everyone thought it was going to be, similar to the Jordan Clarkson deal.

Surprised it came this early though.

A player like Kuzma is worth around this for most teams. Solid deal but the Lakers are going to need him to step up because this kills any pursuit of having an All-Star like caliber player for the next couple of seasons. Worst case scenario, trade him. It should help Kuzma since he doesn't have to worry about his contract situation and can just focus on playing basketball. Lakers gave him a good deal... time for Kuz to step it up.

I was thinking if he did well we’d have to pay him 15 mil to keep him, some team was gonna offer that, so I have no issue with 3 years/40 mil. The Giannis pursuit is over, it’s time to just play this out with what we’ve got and try to repeat, so having your best players locked in is a good thing. And yes, he is in our top 5-6 players, Woj article says he could even start.

That's basically a KCP/Role-player esque contract. It's a good deal for the Lakers but wow Kuzma got way underpaid here.

Great. LOL was coming here earlier to post a today article about why the Lakers were NOT going to do it before the deadline. Am glad to know the Lakers brain trust values him and expect same for Caruso and THT. Mix in The Bullet, the Unicorn and the Jailbird and Harrell .... and Rob has damn near set us up with top tier youth going forward too. In one freaking off season not having to wait on a conniving snake who was playing us. Amazing. Wait until he gets some experience.

    Boo.

The Lakers brain trust I trust. Look what they do with untested college talent the last 6 years. They are seeing him now where he is in practice and pre-season and are liking what they see.

As I mentioned not long ago in this thread, I thought it would be an ideal time to get that contract extension locked down and we did. Love the move, especially at the price which is a good deal for both parties without breaking the bank. I think Kuz would have gotten in the $15 million per year range next summer, but possibly more because Giannis is off the market. He's a good talent and would be a starter on some other teams. This was timely and as AD said, now Kuz can focus on getting better and working on his game. Great job Rob! Also if a star happens to become available via trade along the way, now Kuz's contract is moveable as is KCP's.

Great deal ... but why do I feel like this makes it even more likely that he ends up traded?

Wow, this is a good value contract for the Lakers. I'm sure Kuz thought he was worth more, but... it's still a solid deal for him. He should play better now that there's less pressure on him during the season. Personally, I like Kuz for depth at the wing. His shot looks mostly solid, he can be a 3 & D guy this season.
