I'm still kind of in awe that he played point guard and looked really comfortable. I didn't know he was a "full time point" type of player. I thought he was a wing who can bring the ball up the court. Is Jason Kidd still on the coaching staff? Because I see some of his game in Talen this season. If he goes down this path as a point guard, he will be punishing teams for years to come.
The fact that he shares the same agent as Lebron tells me he is here because Lebron went to Laker management and told them to buy that Orlando pick and get the kid. That will be helpful when he is a free agent next offseason. I can't imagine he bails on us with everything the Lakers and Lebron did for him. THT could very well be starting before the year is up. His position is one where we are "weakest" as far as our starters (Wes).
Time stamp 56 seconds in ..... Frank Vogel after practice during the Finals, is talking with Amick and Dan Woike of the L.A. Times as they watched THT and Dudley and some others still shooting around after practice and Woike comments something like "Talen looks pretty good "..... and Vogel says THIS, "Man that effing kid, he's going to start for me next year." Probably implying in his mind "at some point". Who here knows more about Tucker than Vogel? Talen is who we are starting to think he is ..... it appears?
They did us a favor with Harrell. He could have probably gotten a little more. AD could have gotten more money had he stayed with the Pelicans. Klutch seems to look at the bigger picture. I'm not saying we can get away with offering Tucker the league minimum, but if the money is close, I think he might give us a small discount on his first deal, maybe sign a shorter 2-year deal so we can get into bird rights territory.
Only minor thing I noticed with THT is he’s exclusively right handed around the basket, regardless of what side of the rim he’s on. He’ll need to develop a left hand too going forward.
Actually kind of yes. Heard this on a pocdcast I think. Apparently LeBron noticed Talen in high school or something (can’t remember the full story) or an exhibition before the draft and took note that he looked like he had promise. Somehow that led to Talen signing with Klutch and This part is my own speculation, but I assume the Klutch connection and LeBron knowing of him led him to the Lakers
We also had Von “Next Ray Allen” Wafer. Sun “Chinese Magic Johnson” Yue. Devon “Trevor Ariza” Ebanks. Someone had mentioned after the first pre-season game that THT had good moves to get to the rim but wasn’t great at finishing. That reminded me of Tierre Brown, epic pre-season where he showed all this potential with ball handling skills, but he couldn’t finish a layup. Ended up being out the league soon after that. I was never a fan of Morris. I think we wanted to hype him up as Andre Miller lite, but he didn’t do anything special. I will still not accept any slander for Goudelock or Henry though. Mini-Mamba’s floater was on point and he was just fun to watch. I’m surprised he wasn’t able to stick around in the league as a bench scorer. Xavier was actually really good for us until he had a major injury. I’m kinda just rambling and reminiscing, but to tie it back to the topic at hand, I think THT has already demonstrated more potential then all the players brought up here.
lol. first, TA is housed. which is expected but also hilarious or potentially sad, depending upon other factors. second, i don't think THT needs any propping up. he's got a star mentality. but he's got to sharpen his game to get there. he's already done a lot of sharpening but he's not at the apex yet (assuming his aspirations are stardom). yeah, for all the fear of being managed by klutch...there are worse things.
this sort of explains why tht fell in draft, i remember last season he missed the summer league due to that leg issue https://www.theringer.com/2020/12/15/22175478/los-angeles-lakers-talen-horton-tucker-lebron-james
With Giannis signing for 5 years $228 million and Paul George extending for $226 million and even Bam getting $195 million for 5, I'm feeling like we got an absolute steal with AD at $190 million for the same years.
Hopefully Caruso can mentor him on becoming an LA Heartthrob overnight. Caruso: Women will love you. Men will want to be you. Even cats will be nice to you.
Good point: probably the first adjustment teams will make after watching film is force him to use left. Hopefully he adjusts quickly as this one of the fastest things defenses can push out there
