I agree with JSM. To me it just sounded like he wants Guaranteed money and not have play his way into a contract. I’m fine with that, it’s just the amount that’s in question and is he going to have other teams bidding for his services. I also want to give props to Dwight to his marriage. If that was some of our other players they would be constantly posting on social media about it...where should we go on our honeymoon, what color tux should I wear etc.
hopefully they find that balance He's a valued team member than can play heavy minutes if ever needed. Managed well, he could have several more productive years if he remains focused.
I agree. I think the Lakers really value Howard at this point and we should. I’m just hoping we can figure out all the salary stuff without eating into the MLE which is where we could really add to this team.
Thats the clip I watched as well, and that’s also mostly how I took it. I just thought it was really Dwight of him to say that playing for 2.5 million dollars is playing for “free”.
I think Dwight deserves a raise but I also don't want to break the bank for him or eat into MLE to keep him... We need to be thinking Cousins if Dwight isn't an option.
Is the billboard going next? Don’t beg the dude. His option of GS is less attractive now with Klay hurt. Not going “back” to Atl, or Orlando, or Houston. I like the loyalty and “atta boys” but come on.
I don't see Howard going to the Warriors anymore. I thought he would have been a perfect fit there but with Wiseman being selected and Klay being injured, it's not as attractive for a veteran center such as Howard. Clippers still makes a lot of sense but I think Howard cares too much about what people think so he probably doesn't want to get Lakers fans angry at him again. Any other team, no Lakers fan would really care if Howard joined them. I think he's coming back to the Lakers on a three year deal.
“Valued team member” are words I thought I’d never see associated with Dwight in LA. But, he was extremely valuable to our success and I’d love to have him back.
I'm not sure what Dwight meant by playing for free. I like to think of it as a mutual benefit... Lakers gave him an opportunity when almost every other team wouldn't and at the same time, Dwight saved us from having to sign bums like Noah or Mo Speights. If Cousins was never injured, Dwight would likely not be playing in the NBA last season. And what the hell does free mean? He got paid $5.3 million last season. Memphis bought him out and Dwight agreed to take $2.6 million from that buyout and then the Lakers offered him a non-guaranteed which eventually totaled up to $2.7 million. Would love to see him back but these dudes really need to appreciate what the Lakers did for THEM as well... Bradley got a free ring, Rondo was getting moved around the league like a prostitute, Dwight was on the verge of never playing in the NBA again, and Kuzma is banging hot chicks like Vanessa Hudgens thanks to being a Laker
