This. Advanced stats show Green being valuable because he had a lot of minutes with Lebron and AD. This is one of those situations that shows most people who comment on the NBA (like Hollinger) don't actually watch games. If they did, they'd see Green getting burned on defense and bricking three after three after three. He's a 3 n D specialist who neither shoots the three or plays D. Those advanced stats show less about how good Green is, and more about how good Lebron and AD are to overcome Green.
I want to hear a reversal on this loser talk before I get excited. You don’t want to go to the best franchise of all time and play with LeBron and AD? Why?
awesome move if it happens and it actually is green+pick for schroder green was absolute garbage and is on the wrong side of 30 anyways. now go get gallo
Gallo is such a good fit, but I am a little worried about our big man rotation. We can't count on Boogie at this point in his career. Will we be able to keep 2 of the 3 of Dwight/Morris/McGee? If I had to choose between the two, I probably take Ibaka. It's the more pragmatic move.
Putting aside what he said, which I hope was just to shoot down any trade rumors or be diplomatic, it’s a fantastic basketball move. He immediately becomes the starting guard and is better than any pg we have had for a while.
I like Ibaka but he's already won a ring. I think he's going to chase the $ here. McGee, we likely keep. I don't see a huge market for him and in terms of his YouTube channel, he's not going to get better content than in Los Angeles. I would love to see Dwight return as well. I think a McGee+Dwight duo for the Lakers has been great and doesn't cost us much. Gallo is an interesting piece. If we add him, it's game over. Lakers would be the deepest team in the league. Hopefully he'll take the $9 million MLE. He's probably worth $17-20 million so that's going to be a huge paycut for him.
I prefer Schroder to come off the bench, tbh. Assuming Rondo and Bradley are no longer with the Lakers, it would make a lot more sense for Schroder to come off the bench like he did for OKC and carry the offense. Lakers are going to have to get quick responses from Rondo and Bradley before all the guards are signed like last year.
I don’t dislike that idea, but it’s time to start making Lebron handle the ball so much so he can get more in-game rest, this felt like that sort of move to me. But a bench with the defense of Schroeder and Caruso is not unappealing.
it is, I agree with that. Ibaka can shoot the 3 too and plays legit center as well. We need to re-sing Morris and try to get Dwight again though.
I don't think he'll start . Caruso is a better fit by a significant margin in the starting 5. Schroder is fine as a scorer off the bench but the fit with Bron is similar as the Rondo one was : not good
I will say, if the reports of it being the 28th and Green for Schroder, I like this more than Kuz+Green+28th+another player. If I am the Lakers, I keep Kuz. Let him prove himself... if he can help the Lakers win back-to-back and plays well, Lakers should reward him. He needs to bring that 3P% up, become a better playmaker and get to the FT line, and keep improving his defense. If he can do that, he will get paid.
To be fair, this isn’t being reported like the “leaks”/rumors that end up just being smoke. It’s being reported like a trade that has been fully agreed to and just needs to wait for draft day to be made official. It is odd to me how Green is barely being brought up in these reports. As much as he underperformed in the playoffs, based on his salary and production, he would be the centerpiece in the trade on our side, not the 28th pick. I feel like this is probably because Green isn’t necessarily going to OKC. They’ve probably agreed to the framework of Green/28 for Schroeder, but are leaving it open to incorporate a third team that might take DG and send other rebuilding assets to OKC. It is funny though, Woj gets Pelinka on his podcast a few weeks ago, and suddenly his tweets now have a pro-Lakers slant?
Woj notoriously hated on LeBron. I think some Reddit folks dug up an entire history of Woj lying and fabricating stories about LeBron. They seem to be in better terms now but Shams is probably more reliable when it comes to reporting about LeBron and the Lakers. I agree, I don't think OKC would just take the 28th. Danny Green is essentially useless to them so I'm going to assume CP3+DG are going to get sent somewhere as well for a full rebuild. OKC clearly wants to keep Shae but he isn't ready to lead a team yet so I don't think OKC cares about taking a few bad contracts until they are ready to contend for a title.
Without Green’s salary to bundle in with Kuzma, I don’t see any scenario where we can trade Kuzma and get back equal value in return. He’s been a bit underwhelming in his current role, but we’re not getting a higher impact player with his ~3 million salary. I don’t know if we’re in position to give him a long term extension the following summer. He will want more than it would make sense for us to give him based on the role he has on our team. But in terms of squeezing value out of him while we have him under contract this year, yeah it makes sense to keep him now.
