rondo and howard will be interesting cases to watch. tbh, most teams really can't use rondo at all, so look for teams just trying to subtract him from our chemistry. but in their attempt to submarine us, they'll have to overpay a guy who won't help them (or us) for most of the season and may or may not have something left in the tank come playoff time.

if he can get someone to give him more than 4 per or more than one year, he should go for it, and i won't be mad at him for taking it. role players on title teams get their cash.

we'll see if our culture was driven by the end of the bench or if the end of the bench was a product of our culture. my sense is it's the latter, but i'm guessing--based on history--we'll have a chance to find out.

Most teams are still deluded into thinking that winning the current league is all about shooting 3 pointers on the perimeter.

The last two years have shown there is a need for rim protection and rebounding (Lakers and Raptors), a genuine playmaking to run and offence (Lowry/FVF and LeBRondo) and then 3 point shooting.

I give Magic Johnson credit for the audacity and vision to see that playmakers are a very central piece to winning a chip, and not just stubbornly shooting hail marys from as deep as possible.

    Go away, neighbors!

"Determined" is a very key word with regards to how we prioritize keeping him.

I thought we have Rondo’s bird rights, so as long as the stepchildren in the basement don’t offer him something outrageous, we can match

Rondo going to the Clippers would not be surprising. “Hey I won a title with you, now I’m going to go play for your rival!”

Probably how Boston fans see him when he signed with us.

But I'm thinking how many more years would he want to play? It's already year 17. Would he rather have a bunch more years, or one more year, and the promise of a coaching job if he decides to retire after the next season?

He said 4 more, if he can. Not sure if his body will hold up. Maybe if he can just be playoff Rondo here, that's a possibility. But elsewhere they'll ask much more of him. If he stays, I could see him riding it out with Bron.

yeah, can't get on board with: magic was right to employ a bunch of non-shooters and hope for the best. such a terrible job managing the team in the six months after we landed lebron. would prefer to forget.

and as much as rondo really helped deliver the title, he was an albatross all year until the playoffs. how much can any team afford to pay for that? only contenders should consider him, and very few have much to offer. do our rivals want to empty their FA chamber just to weaken us--with no guarantee that a) rondo will even be walking in the playoffs, and b) we won't replace him with a player that has similar overall impact?

    again, i'm guessing not.

I would love to have Rondo back on the right deal, and I don't want to see the Clippers poach him from us.

But in terms of roster construction, if we're relying on Rondo to replicate what he did in this playoff run again, we've failed. It's just not something sustainable that we should depend on at his age.

I'm down to spend long-term money this free agency to bring in an impact player and help elevate our chances of repeating. Rondo is not that guy. We can't sacrifice future cap flexibility to overpay him.

LOL 9 mil for Rondo. He plays maybe 1 to 2 great games per month during the regular season and doesn’t step it up til the playoffs, that’s a lot of money for only a fraction of the season actually mattering.

    Jesus christ - 9M Rondo?

No thanks - thank you for what you did for us but $9M is severely overpaying and I doubt any team would be stupid enough to give him that.

He gets $7M MAX from a desperate team like the Clippers...I personally only bring him back for $7-9M ONLY if it's a 1-year deal..anything more than that, I'd drop that number down to $5M per year MAX.
