Great Playoffs by KCP. He was what I thought he would be when he first came to the Lakers. I had almost given up on him, but what a 3 & D Guy..!!!
Yeah I'm thinking the conversations are going to go that way plus Klutch knows it's beneficial for AD and Bron's chance to go back to back.
Yeah, KCP is probably still thinking about that 80 million dollar contract he turned down a few seasons ago.
Lame. He was already paid way above his value by us for multiple years before this one, the Klutch tax was paid ahead of time. 8.5 mil is perfect for what he brings, especially if the cap goes down taking into account that we have no clue when basketball will have fans in the stand again actually bringing teams money.
take the $ KCP.....I certainly dont want to be on the hook for this guy ona 4yr/60-80M, Atl has that sort of $ to offer as well
If ATL is in the mix, he's gone. They have over $40m in cap space. KCP is in his prime, coming off a big bubble outing and is a champion. He's on most overpaid player watch with those circumstances.
Would love to keep him if possible. However, we can't break the bank for him. Just can't. It does suck because we saved his and Klutch's a**** after the Detroit debacle. We overpaid him hugely but of course we know why and you do that 10 times out of 10 to get Lebron and that relationship with Klutch (and thus AD as well). We'll see. We have his Birds' rights but can't go crazy with it. If Atlanta offers big money and years so be it.
I hope we keep him but anything north of $10mil and I'd think about looking the other way. Work with us here Klutch!
I like what he brings to the team. But, you can find a similar player (and probably hungrier to compete for the championship) for less $$ in this situation. $10M per year, take it or leave it. In any case, I wish him nothing but the best. Our motto should be: do not overpay anyone.
Depends on how much he wants and how long. To be honest giving him Danny Green money ($15 mil) may not be too bad for 3 or fewer years. KCP is incredibly durable and he's only 26
I hope the new CBA is dealt with quickly since there is no fan ticket revenue. The same money simply isn't there, and guys like KCP might not be worth quite as much as they were hoping for. This will be a very interesting time for sure.
As somewhere said elsewhere, KCP was like a tax we had to pay to secure Bron and then AD. KCP showing up in the Finals was then like getting a tax deduction at the cycle.
I would still love to have him back on a reasonable contract... I'm not sure what that is right now, nobody knows at this point... I think he's nice as a SG for us who is nimble enough to defend PGs and crafty/experienced enough to deal with SFs as well. Sure, he's inconsistent, but if he was able to consistently have 15 PPG, a few rebounds, a steal, while shooting 40%+ from 3 and effectively guarding three positions, he'd be extremely expensive. Again, I'll take his 10/2/1, a steal, good D, 80% FT, 38% 3-pt on average on a solid contract - and he is just entering his prime as a guard too. Sometimes he will shoot very poorly, sometimes he'll give you 18 points on 50%+ from deep which can be a little frustrating, but he has proved that he cares, he's a good team guy and plays hard. I don't think anyone can reasonably expect more.
