Dwight vs Adebayo, Dwight Man of Steel and recipient of the super shoulder formula. It was like man of steel vs man of stool, with Bam scraped all over the floor.
That's really cool of him. He's come such a long way and I never would've dreamed this pairing would have worked out nearly as well as it has.
did you see his intensity?... hands up, bouncing, the guy was relentless, and bam f***ed around and found out.
He is a physical player in this small league. Dwight is a 34-year old dinosaur, a HoF player who had to go against Shaq. He's extremely strong and well-built. Can you imagine BAM or PJ Tucker going against Shaq? Ouch man. Dwight was small-ish back then and he had to use all his physical talents to overcome that. I know he's listed as 6-11, but he's barely any taller than LeBron.
Maybe in terms of his mindset but if you gave this Lakers team a PRIME Dwight, you're looking at the greatest team of all-time. So while I do love this version of Dwight, Dwight of 08-10 would have wreaked havoc. No center would have been able to match his athleticism.
The issue with Shaq is he was susceptible to being taken advantage of defensively. He'd have trouble chasing the three point line so while unstoppable offensively, he'd have a much more difficult time playing perimeter defense.
I agree with that. I am just trying to imagine these modern Pfs and Cs playing back than and going against Shaq. Even going against Duncan would be very painful for them.
I would not mind one bit having Dwight return next year. He gives us unbelievable toughness and versatility in our lineups.
absolutely, and i love how we're talking about Dwight, who only played 15 minutes last night... wow, what an impact in such a short amount of time... these guys' careers can be extended too if we can limit their minutes like this.
Watching Bam ping pong off of Dwight was great, the dude aggravated his shoulder that was injured from the playoffs. Bringing Dwight back is priority #1 for me this offseason. And honetly I see him coming back. The way he talks about the team, the franchise, I see it.
I think if you had a prime Shaq, I wonder if you would go to a 2-3 zone all time. So that you have 4 guys kind of in orbit around Shaq so it would be harder to pull him out in the PnR. a prime GSW team against Shaq and Kobe playing man to man in this switch hunting league would have been interesting.
Here's a compilation of Bam battling Dwight. Bam's tough enough but that one shoulder block into Dwight while going to the hoop really messed him up. What I do notice very early on is Vogel had been in Dwight's ear to just "play" to the best of his ability and NOT get baited into retaliating against physical stuff used against HIM. Bam's bumping him around early on and hooking his arms and Dwight doesn't even acknowledge it .... just runs down and gets ready for the next play. Way to go Frank and way to go Dwight. Sucks for you Bam.
Where do you guys rank Dwight as a defensive center in the league? He's easily top ten for me but curious as to what others here think. To see him absolutely bully Jokic and then now the Heat is hilarious.
Assuming we go on and win it, it really is up to Dwight want he wants now. Does he want to chase money, or a chance to be part of success elsewhere? I think he's made enough money, and is happy enough in LA (this time) to stay. I think he has custody of his young son, so probably would like the stability of not moving around.
It is times like this where it is so good to be wrong. Dwight Howard has been a blessing. I hope everything in his life goes the way he wants it. He has earned it.
