no, we signed him using some rights to make salaries match in a trade. it's similar to what morey's been doing for years, and the league finally decided they'd seen enough when he tried something outlandish with nene and shumpert this past summer. there was a wild west period about 10-15 years ago where all these loopholes existed and were being pretty shamelessly exploited (the trade-then-buyout-return, the fake S&T, the weirdly structured non-guarantees, etc.). over time, most of that has stopped, and the league has taken a more active role in discouraging or flat out intervening in such practices. this is good, imo. vetoing legitimate trades that send your flagship franchise into the toilet for nearly decade, on the other hand, is the bad form of league intervention.
Just checking in to say that Domantas Sabonis is killing it. His four-year progression: 06-04-1 12-08-2 14-09-3 18-12-5 Picked up his first all-star appearance this year. He also has two straight years of 1.5+ OBPM and 2.2+ DBPM. Not bad for an 11th pick. He's probably top three or four best in that draft so far.
yeah, you nailed that one. i still can't believe it watching him, tbh. the things i thought would hold him back (not much shot blocking, not super mobile on the perimeter, range not quite to three) are still present, but he's overcome them with the hoop iq and general high skill level and tenacity.
amazing that they can win at this clip with him only playing 30mpg. though i did just read that the bucks have had a pretty easy schedule. i think like, half of the rest of their games are against the other top teams in the league. will be interesting to see if they keep up the pace.
Giannis is killing the league with his "euro step" (a freakin travel). He's bullying everyone close to the basket. Let's see him against Philly/C Bags/Raptors in the playoffs.
i wish i could run over retreating defenders whom i outweigh by 30 lbs and get to shoot FTs for it, but i have to play with integrity. i wish i could chuck stepback threes while my teammates watch from the corners, then not play defense while my teammates cover for my lazy a**. we all have our crosses to bear, FTA master.
