I mean... Let's be honest: Anthony Davis loves Demarcus Cousins so that is likely why we are still invested in Cousins. I do think he's a cheap alternative in the future for us because he can still shoot, pass, and rebound the ball but it's tough to be invested into a player like Cousins when they can go down at any time due to an injury. I'm not a huge fan of Cousins but I feel bad for the guy. If healthy, he would have been making max dollars instead of barely being able to find a team that could use him.
If things continue to go smoothly, we will have the luxury of choosing between two once elite centers to keep next year. Is there anyway we can keep both? If not, who do you pick? Who gets the exception contract? Who takes the minimum?
We can keep both but there's definitely going to be an issue with the minutes. DeMarcus would be lucky to still be signed to an NBA team at this point. His injuries continue piling up and he wasn't a franchise-changer even before those injuries. Dwight I feel owes us in a sense. We were the only team that gave him a legitimate chance to play big minutes on a championship contender. I'm not saying he should 100% re-sign with the Lakers but if we win a championship, it's tough to see why he would leave considering the odds.
I think both of them owe us, in the sense that we stood by DMC during his domestic violence issue and we gave Dwight a chance when no one would. I also want to keep both of them because as LBJ declines we will need every edge we can get as our cap will be limited and we are looking at only adding a 30th pick. I suppose they will look carefully at them in the off season, assuming all continues to go well try to keep them if possible. I just don't want either of them to go to the Clippers... that's my main concern.
neither are getting anything more than vet min-5m a yr, howard is 33 going in 34, cousins has 3 major injuries that would end most players careers
I think Dwight leaves. The way he is playing, he can be an in demand piece anywhere across the league. A big that can defend that well and be a threat on the roll, who does all the little things. I wouldn’t be shocked if someone offers him 10-15m per for 2 years. If someone doesn’t, I know golden state would love this version of Dwight and that’s an appealing situation for him too. Curry, Klay, D’Lo, Green and Dwight is a great, great team. It’s been rumoured that Iguodala will go back there to finish his career too and they’ll have a high draft pick, Paschall and Poole. One more wing defender and they’re a legitimate threat next year. I could see Dwight wanting to be apart of that because the lakers fandom will never truly accept him. In my opinion, we retain cousins. We’ve shown a lot of loyalty in keeping him in the fold.
Cousins looks fat again. I think he should stay out this year and then use the time to get back into shape and ease his body into the workload.
gsw is hard capped n running almost near cap limits with their big 4 of klay, stpeh, dlo n Draymond....they cant afford anything more than low end vet min deals...i can see how you think Howard could get that 10-15 with Lopez deal but lopez can shoot 3s on a very good %, howard has no offense besides dunking
If the Lakers win it all this year, it would be dumb on Dwight's part to go anywhere after this. He has made $240 million in NBA salary, probably another 150 million or so in endorsements in his 15 years. He can put a nice stamp on his hall of fame career and finish it off in LA with a few titles.
Saw a video on Boogie’s Instagram of him working out. Encouraging. Here’s an extended video on YouTube.
When Boogie played his 30 games with the Warriors he averaged 2.1 blocks per 36. Compare that to Jokic who averages 0.7 this season Steals? Boogie averaged 1.9 Jokic averages 1.2 (Our DPOY candidate only averages 1.4) Total shooting percentage? Boogie averaged 56.2% Jokic averages 56.3% 3 point shooting percentage? It was bad with the Warriors but his career shooting is 33.2% Jokic is 34.0 Even with his torn Achilles, Boogie's PER was 21.4... Jokic is 22.9 Boogie on one leg has a better PER than anyone on our team other than AD and LBJ. I used Jokic as a comparison because he's slow and barely jumps. Jokic makes 26 million and Boogie only makes 3.5 million If we let him go to our competitors I'm going to scream.
Aren’t we basically in the same situation as Golden State last year and unable to match offers over a certain percentage because it’s a one year agreement? if he is healthy, he is likely long gone
Considering we stood by him during his legal issues and that he's friends with AD, I'm thinking if we make a fair offer with whatever limited resources we have that he might stay. My biggest worry however, is that whatever big man we don't prioritize will end up with the Clippers. If the picture becomes clearer if I were the front office I'd trade the odd man out to the East. Just to keep them away from the Clips.
I’d love to have a durable low post threat on the team for sure, and he also is a nice pastor and can hit the three ball hopefully he regains his health and we do get to keep him for at least one year, but I’m pretty sure he may be going after the most money available
Siri is mad at me I think ever since I changed phones. But cool people fill in the blanks because they know what you mean. Others mock you mercilessly.
