No this is not what I meant. If you have a chance to get and Ace and a King, would you take it versus holding on to a 9,7 and, hoping to pull an 8. Sure you could pull a straight but ace, king have much better odds. By never making a decision, you actually HAVE made a decision. Analysis paralysis is not a way I’m willing to live my life. Nothing is ever a sure thing, injuries, trades happen all the time.

I think my big problem with your augment is comparing stats for all the kids to AD’s. There’s no NBA stat record keeping for that, for a reason. It’s just not applicable, regardless of who’s involved in a trade. This doesn’t not even touch on the salary issue of keeping all the kids when their new contract kick in.

I believe you would have held on the the kids as assets. What happens if they get worse, have injuries, get drug habits and on and on. You can’t ever plan for all the contingencies. Why drive yourself insane trying? If I’m the GM of this team I’m taking the chance. You think we could have just signed AD this summer....sorry but IMO that’s a pipe dream I’m just not willing to smoke.

Then I respectfully disagree. I hope we succeed in spite of the trade... I hope nothing goes wrong but the overpay and divestment of assets is too much for my taste. It's a Catch-22 for me because the only way for me to be proven right is if something goes wrong and I'm not going to root against the team simply for my own ego. I'm just going along for the ride and hoping nothing negative happens.

Don't ever disagree with Cook, now, you are going the wrong way up in here.

There will be negative things that happen; what we hope for is that the positive outweigh the negative because the last 6 years has been the complete opposite.

However, for that to occur (positive outweighing negative), we needed a change; a franchise altering one. And Davis is that move, IMO.

Did we give up to much? I don't think so, but that's up for debate. What I do know? The Davis trade gave us a 26 year old unicorn that we anticipate signing and having here for years to come.

I loved Ingram & Russell in particularly; but I knew at some point we would have to cash in, and I am glad the way things have turned out so far...

well, the eastern conference was at its nadir, so that cleveland team was like a 7 seed in the west. good cherrypicking on lebron's only finals season without a second star and AD's season AFTER he led a similar crew of miscreants to the playoffs.

the AD of the past two weeks isn't a revelation. he's exactly the dude who's been playing at first team all nba level for several years. where the hell have you been?

    siakam? jesus.

Nadir? 2007 is right at the median for that era Also 2016 was when the Eastern conference was at its most competitive

My point wasn't that Siakam was as good as AD... my point was that you could pair him with LBJ and more depth and probably come up with a good record.

You act like I don't like AD... I do. I would have been happy to sign him for free next season even if it cost me my beloved Ingram.

I just didn't want to lose that many pieces.

He was traded for more players than Chamberlain, Shaq, Kareem, Gasol... I don't get why it is so controversial that I wanted him but not at that price.

That last post almost took up one entire page. Is this necessary? Especially with more useless stats that have NOTHING to do with this damn season!

Lakers are 21-3. Lakers have it all right now. Enjoy it!

Fair enough, agree to disagree. I am curious if you are GM and Lebron is here already, who is the player that you try to get here this year? I think until recently you thought Bron only had a couple good years left. Which I actually agreed with until this year. Do you waste another year of what you think is already close to the end and if so why?

I think of you’re GM of the Lakers playing it safe gets you fired. Getting to the playoffs for Memphis might work but we expect more. What do you say to the fans that have waited 6 years for a good team? Are you afraid the Laker brand will
continue to lose fans and viewership and does that affect your decision.

You said I cherry picked... if you meant I looked at a random year and matched up to LBJ at the same age... sure.

Now, would I have posted it if it hadn't fit my narrative? No, but who does that?

You said I picked the nadir of the Eastern conference which was 2004... not 2007 during the 2000s

The random year I picked was about average for the generally poor Eastern conference. The season before they won 45 games and got swept in the first round. The following year was 34-48 with him playing a career high number of games.

I don't like posting negative stats about AD... he's our guy right now... but if you continue to tell me I have no case, I feel compelled at least to defend my point.

LBJ had a winning record every season after his rookie season before he got help with Wade or Kyrie

He won 66 games with Delonte West, Mo Williams, Varejao, and Ilgauskas!

How many does AD win with that group?

I'm not listing all the years because I don't want to pile on... but until this year AD has shown little aptitude in terms of winning compared to similar greats.

We had been a third seed in the West around this time last season before the wheels came off. It's not like we had a losing record with LBJ. If LBJ's groin doesn't give out I think we make the playoffs and maybe win a round or two. Would it have been as good as this team? No... but then you consider what if we put the young core with this group of vets... Dwight/AB... shooters... good locker room guys instead of wild cards like Lance and Beasley.

Now you have a playoff team with a lot of moveable assets and picks. You sign AD next year... maybe trade BI for a future first round or another needed piece and you still have time to sort out what Zo/Hart/Kuzma/Mo would be. We would have one of Hayes/Garland/Hunter/White/Culver. Or you offer BI a cheaper extension before his blood clot issue is resolved.

This team is doing well no doubt... but what could have been makes me sad.

So you still waste another year of what you thought was Lebron limited shelf life? Or do you think the kids, Dwight,AB and some shooters gets us to the finals?

I agree this team this season has better odds of winning a title. But I also believe with the Klutch connection we could have signed AD next season and either kept BI by signing him to an extension when his value was low or traded him for a first rounder or another needed piece to clear space

So for sure this year we are better off... the question for me is the following years.

I didn't like giving up that much, and not even sure we had to, but I think it's clear things are working out ok. I don't see the point in going over it much.

It's been so long since we had a good team, I'd prefer not to discuss the recent past or bashing of decisions that some view affect our near future. I think our staff seems to be on top of things pretty good. With only a few people under contract, we assembled a pretty decent roster that is leading the league. Literally every team has flaws. We'll never be 3 deep with All Stars or former all stars at every position.

Fans are really hard to please sometimes. Like others have said, hopefully the worry about the recent past or near future won't steal your joy from enjoying today.

    It's doesn't steal my joy.

I don't obsess over global warming 24/7 but if someone addresses it by saying it's a non issue... I may reply back depending on my mood.

I enjoy watching each game... I enjoy watching the Pelicans and Wizards games as well. I feel like I have a B and C team with the Lakers always first.

But if someone gloats and says it's a no brainer... then I might respond. If people don't say that... I feel little need to bring it up myself.

That wasn't directed at anyone in particular just to be clear. It's nice to look forward to a game with a win as a probable outcome. It's been a long time. The stuff we have to complain about now is MUCH better than the last 6-7 years.
