we'll have full bird rights when this deal's up, and i doubt he'd field offers above the MLE.

really great job by the scouts and talent developers here, though. there's a lot he can't do, but most of that doesn't matter with our current roster construction.

I love this guy. Doesn’t give up and fights every minute he’s out there.

he's a really valuable player without it. with it, he's an over-MLE player.

Delly got 4 years 38 million for being Alex Caruso + the 3 point shot. Would have gotten more if he wasn’t a dirty piece of s***.

well, that contract was widely considered a mistake, even at the time. but that's about MLE now.

He’s our Patrick Beverly, in a less irritating sense. There will be a retirement level contract out there somewhere before his career is up.

An infinitely less irritating sense. Just plays the game the right way to the best of his talent, great instincts and his decent athleticism.

One of the more unsung heroes of the Lakers defense is reserve guard Alex Caruso, who ranks sixth in the NBA in individual defensive rating as the Lakers allow just 96.9 points per 100 possessions in his 19.9 minutes per game on the court. Among players that average fewer than 20 minutes per game, Caruso ranks second in steals (1.1 per game) and third in deflections (2.3 per game) - both of which help the Lakers hold the second-best opponent turnovers percentage (16.6%) in the league.

In 133 minutes of defensive matchup time, Caruso has held his matchups to 43.5% (64-147) shooting from the field and 29.2% (14-48) from beyond the arc. Caruso's ability to force turnovers (31 by his matchups) and contest shots (4.6 per game) without fouling (six total shooting fouls committed) have made him a valuable piece in Frank Vogel's rotation. The Lakers' defense is 9.4 points per 100 possessions better with Caruso on the court (96.4 DefRtg) than when he's off the court (105.8).

Lillard had a "quiet" 29 tonight on efficient shooting but there was a stretch in the second quarter where Caruso covered him. He made one step back jumper...everything else was contested or he had to give up the rock.

Lillard sort of figured him out as the game went on but by that time it was too late.
He somehow still managed to play great help D even if Lillard was able to get by him. He really is one of the better defenders in the league overall on the perimeter

Lillard is too talented to be bottled even by anyone but that stretch helped forged a comfortable lead which we maintained. Caruso has been praised for his defensive instincts. There was one fast break by Portland where Davis picked up the ballhandler forcing the pass where he dropped down to snag a steal. Small things like that you can't teach...
