Me too. Vogel is coaching to win games above all else. I'm rooting for him. It also keeps Kidd in the background.
It looks like Vogel is a good man manager in terms of keeping the morale high, but I question the wisdom of digging a hole by putting ineffective players out during tight games or even starting them. I'd put slumping players in when we had a huge lead but not so much when the game is tied. I can't argue with his results though, as long as he keeps winning, who am I to judge?
I've thought this from the start that he won't be concerned with politics and hurt feelings out there. Doing his job to get wins or yeah the shiv in the back from the guy next to him down the road. Allegedly. He had the balls to accept the 3 years only and Kidd forced onto his staff. Lue didn't and also had the big head with his one ring LBJ got him. IMHO.
I dont hold the 5yr demand against Lue and what respectable HC would subject himself to taking on asst. he doesn't care for? Vogel is doing good now but all that he accepted (3yrs deal, taking on kidd, hollins, etc.) are clear signs he could easily be replaced at any given time
I was a big supporter of Luke, not because he was a great coach, but because I saw some things I thought he could develop into a good coach. Like a rookie with some promise. But I’m happy to see what a real competent and solid NBA coach looks like. Vogel is doing a good job all the way around and a great job on defensive philosophy and getting players to buy in. Offense will come as we have more practice time, but just having LeBron and AD on the team ensures we can score when we need to. Overall I’d give Vogel a solid B+ right now. Also I was also listening to LFR or maybe Locked on Lakers, and I think Pete was saying, he’s talking to Lakers staff all the time at practices and press conferences, and that everyone really likes Vogel and he’s not hearing any rumblings about replacing him with Kidd. That made me breath a huge sigh of relief.
i remember when USC hired Pete Carrol and i was like 'meh'...was just hoping he didnt mess things up...couple of national titles later, he would end up being the coach we needed this is my hope for Vogel...really rooting for that guy and he hasn't let me down yet
Vogel set a goal at the start of the season of 25 assists per game. Be a pass first team. https://www.pressreader.com/usa/los-angeles-times/20191114/282029034055401
A lot of focus naturally is on the acquisition of AD and pairing him with Bron. But I think we are seeing the true befits of a competent experienced coaching staff. Luke’s staff was not. That’s the only way you can explain such good defense so quickly in the season. They already look in mid season form on defense. Can’t wait to match up that defense against the flips’ defense on Christmas Day.
This was his worst coached game - Rondo and KCP in the same starting 5 just isn't and probably never going to work. And, though a small sample size, the LeBron-Rondo in the same line-up does not work. He should have played a lot more Cook who offers more shooting... This game was much more difficult than it needed to be, and I blame a whole lot of this on Frank...
The adjustments and love for Vogel continue! No doubt it helps to have better, more competent players but that stuff needs to be managed and Vogel is doing just that. Enjoyed the latest LFR podcast with that guy that travels with the team and who has worked with a number of NBA teams throughout the decade. He was saying he's never seen a team enjoy each other and be as connected between the staff, players, folks who aren't as high ranked. This guy was also saying after the DAL win Vogel invited him out for drinks with the rest of the coaches even though he is still real new and getting to know everyone. Keep up the great work Frank
Our offense shot up to #9 when just a few games ago, we were top 20. It's only going to get better since we had a disastrous 25% shooting from three in the earlier games of the season. Frank has been magnificent and props to our assistant coaches - 2/3 who were previous head coaches but are now helping Frank lead this team.
Yeah that podcast was excellent. I recommend every fan listen it it. It was really fun to hear the behind the scenes stuff, and how he felt the team rant plays and decided how to tackle different problems in game, by comity.
Props to Vogel for sticking KCP in the starting lineup and giving him confidence - he has looked much better as a starter and plays with confidence because coaching staff believes in him. I also think that Vogel pulls KCP when he's not playing well but has KCP's trust still - that's a sign of a good coach. Very impressed by Vogel for sure - the defense is the part that NOBODY predicted we'd be this good in - once our offense comes around - look the eff out.
Wow. I'm not one that likes to spend 35 minutes on an interview and I don't do podcasts pretty much ever. But yeah that was an excellent behind the scenes look at this team and highly recommended. For @vasashi17 too when he talks about the input Lebron and AD had in putting this roster together and why guys were chosen. Not random and not Pelinka's inexperience. Great to hear how smart they all consider Kidd to be and how great the staff has pooled their collective minds and made the changes at halftime to come out and do better. And lastly when it's over ..... stick around for the radio and TV moments with Chick and Stu and Magic and worthy and Kobe and those thrilling calls on air. Yeah that was good.
When the Lakers win the title this year, I will look forward to all the two-faced a** kissers to do exactly that. Kiss a**. Banner 17 will be hanging in the rafters, one away from the top spot all time. The ONLY top spot that matters in sports.
