"I want to play," Davis said. "But obviously saying that, the training staff will probably be more reluctant to [let me play]. If it's still bothering me a little bit, [they'll] have me sit out. Or if it's feeling good, I'm going to play. ... Just to know that the way the team played when I sat out, I don't have to be in a rush to get back."

Davis admitted he has thought about opponents targeting him when he plays hurt.

"I thought about it every game," Davis said. "I know especially back in the old days, they'd attack a player's injury. ... I haven't felt other teams try to attack my shoulder or anything."

Davis hopes to lead the Lakers back to the postseason for the first time in six years this spring and is balancing the short-term returns of pushing himself now versus the potential long-term consequences.

"It's super tough," Davis said. "It's a long season. It's early in the season. You don't want to continue to play through something and then it gets worse. So it's always sitting in the back of your head. But at the same time, you want to play. So you got to listen to your body, be honest with the training staff and try to do what you can. Kind of do what's best for the betterment of the team."

nothing wrong with what anyone's doing here. you can't mothball people; i really don't like that philosophy in general. he knows when he can and can't go, and it's clear our med staff (or any other staff) won't pressure him to play (like gs did with kd, indirectly).

i know that if and when he seriously injures the shoulder people will want to say it was because he played, but the alternative is basically sitting the season.

I personally don’t think it’s about not playing...it’s about making him comfortable when he does play. Playing a quarter of games at a position he’s not comfortable playing till May, makes no sense to me.

And really, it’s not all about the position itself...it’s the added exposure.

And again it’s a long season, just protect your 2star investment. Lower their minutes and usage if you can outsource it.

Bron and Caruso miscommunicated that switch...but AD playing through discomfort was right there.

Regarding the front office, Mills and GM Scott Perry are likely to last the rest of the season, according to sources. That could change if James Dolan gets cranky, but, regardless, the front office is far from safe in the offseason. Names are already being floated across the league of executives who might replace Mills. They include: Masai Ujiri, Sam Presti, Kiki Vandeweghe (who is interested in the job, according to a source), Daryl Morey (who probably won’t last in Houston following the China controversy), Trajan Langdon and Sam Hinkie.

Something to pay attention to for AD’s free agency.

If the NBA is worried about Morey... why would they move him to their largest market?
I hope the Knicks don't get Ujiri... that would be very bad news for the rest of the league.
I'm worried about AD because he never seems to be smiling at his interviews... he acts serious like he has the world on his shoulders.
Maybe he's always like that his whole career, but I wish he seemed happier.
If he looks this serious when we are 10-2... what does he look like if we were 6-6?
We are so screwed if he doesn't sign.

Yeah, 5 blocks and 5 assists. Had some nice sequences on D. Good thing he contributed in other facets while his offense and rebounding were no shows.

Not sure how or why, they don't have the horses, but he let the Hawks keep him contained.

he was turning down easy shots for more difficult shots or passes, which was odd.

    still was huge defensively.

His defense has been insane. Keep this up and he will definitely be in play for DPOY. He's going to have to turn up the juice on offense though if he is to be in the MVP conversation. I'm fine with it though. The guy is playing hurt and getting us wins. I hope his shoulder issues calm down later in the year and we can see him at full strength for the playoffs.

    Exactly LJ!

Without AD and the luxury our lengf allows him to float and rotate in space, our defense is nothing. f*** small ball...we riding our own wave now. Vogs has a part in it of course, but without the players, you don’t get this...

Thats f***ing beautiful to watch. And that pretty much decides it for me. AD isn’t Batman...he’s Robbin other teams from running their offense.

AD just needs to focus on DPoY and I’m sure Bron, Rondo and hopefully another playmaker can get him easy looks on offense. Cause defense is all that should matter. That is our identity...and I’m happy AD sees it that way.

Shocked this hasn't been posted in here yet:

His shot isn't falling and Vogel recently said today he's got to find better ways to get AD the ball without having to do so much 1 on 1. But I think his shot and struggles offensively have somewhat to do with him being catious with his shoulder and rim injuries. That missed dunk last night, if you look at the replay he clearly didn't want to hang on the rim and was trying to release the ball out of his right hand as he was making contact with the rim to limit the shock, absorption of the impact.

With all that said his defense is and has been top notch, the clear leader in the clubhouse for Defensive Player of the Year which was his goal this year. He made at least 3 game alterting plays on defense in that Kings game and had another 5 blocks against the Hawks. This tweet also shows the consistent nature of his defense in how its no joke we're the best defensive team in the league when we have the best defensive player on our team so far this year.

Yeah defense is what’s up. Props to Bron, but he can play defense aggressively on the perimeter with our other guards cause he knows being him there’s AD hovering as a help defender and there’s still another guy in McGee/Dwight that he can lead the opposition into as rim protectors.

The same way our offense has no juice without Bron, our defense doesn’t have it without AD.

The thing about AD as a 5 is that he’s capable but that puts Kuz on the floor and even his biggest fans know he’s not that much of a defender. Our offense would probably be a tick higher but our defense would take a hit with that small ball lineup.

It’s still too small a sample right now, but it will be interesting to revisit this stat at seasons end and whether it’s really worth to go with it into the playoffs.
