Agree with pau on passing. It’s why I liked gs, despite all the threes—ball and player movement is more fun to watch. they did it with two non-deep threats in bogut and green, too.
I came into this thread to say that Vogel has been very consistent on rotations. Obviously he hasn't followed them to the minute every game, but it's been very consistent compared to the wild wild west rotations of Luke.
Vogel makes a great point stating how the third quarter lineup is the same and we perform much better. It could very well be that our team just starts off slow being nonchalant and then turns it up. I hope it's something we can clean up because it's frustrating seeing our team down double-digits and having to climb our way out every game. On another note, one glaring negative to Lonzo getting traded is we have one less person to run the fastbreak for McGee. I hope with Rondo coming in, he can start feeding lobs to McGee again. If you think about it, we have no other legitimate elite playmaker who can pass the ball outside of LeBron. With Rondo, we can keep it going and grab some easy baskets.
Always seemed Phil’s lineups and rotations were set by the first game of the season, almost to a fault sometimes. Better than the opposite for sure.
iirc, luke claimed to do things in 10-game samples, which sounded sensible, but i'm not sure actually happened. in fairness, we had a lot of injuries. luke also brought us kuz as primary backup center, though, so...yeah...
defense has definitely been solid. offense has been ugly but effective enough to win. let's hope we can stay steady on the one and simultaneously improve the other. though my fear is that rondo and kuz are the guys who can help unlock the offense, but both could dilute the d a bit.
I think it's all about pairings and I think Vogel can figure it out. We have enough defensive talent to hide guys. Kuz's D was better with the Olympic team and he has the tools to be a good defender. Rondo has the IQ and one was an elite defender. If we can get Bron playing D out there, anything is possible. As long as team D and effort remain at a high level, we'll win. A lot. Need to cut down the turnovers though. That kept SA in it last night.
Good job Vogel. I would like to get the usage on AD and Bron down a hair. Hoping when we're healthy, that'll happen. Fine riding that wave of them out talenting the opposition as team chemistry and health improves.
Vogel has done what he is good at. Teach defense. Run defense for 48 min. As far as the offense, Lakers need Rondo back to give Lebron a breather for 20-25 min at the point. He cant do this all year.
Finding the right line ups surrounding those two will be key. I'm more concerned with Rondo as I think Kuz can be adequate if he plays hard.
he needs to design better O when James is out and AD is still in, everything looks like crap once James is out of the game
Vogs has the defense lit...it's a shame he couldn't exclusively focus on just that side of the ball tho. #CouldaWouldaShoulda had both...but I know I know, he ain't s*** without Bron. Thing is, Bron's here.
This was a pretty thorough write up before the AD trade occurred. When you get the time, check it out. https://www.bball-index.com/lakers-coaching-search/ If Lue/Bron needs another perimeter playmaker to ease the offensive duress over a long season, seems like that’s more of the FO needing to address personnel issues and not really a coaching issue. I guess till the FO addresses it, Vogs needs to give Caruso more minutes to find out. The point is, if you have a more efficient scoring offense, you have that much more energy on the defensive end. Yeah, it’s true Bron had Kyrie...but that come from behind blocked shot on Iggy to help secure their one Finals win may also be attributed to the fact the offense wasn’t entirely reliant on Bron either.
Defense wins championships. Our offense will gel at some point I believe. Rondo back will take some ball handling usage away from Lebron which is good, Kuz back takes the scoring load off AD and Lebron. Right now we are relying on both their talents to win games. Not bad but not sustainable for the entire season.
i like how Vogel kept Javale in there after he picked up his 2nd foul..it does 2 things: 1. shows McGee that he has confidence in him to play thru it 2. knowing McGee wont play thru it, will rack up early fouls to ensure Dwight plays the majority of minutes subtle genius
