The post ups of both AD and Bron from the triple threat will impact this. I rather see that than them dribbling on the perimeter to create a scoring opportunity. Save those legs for D and the postseason.
I dont like the sound of being dead last in pace, Vogel said during summer when after his departure from Orl he picked up different schemes that were more modernized offense, thus far this O looks like s***, theyre winning on with their D and talent right now
Pace not going up until those turnovers go down. If we can win without pace then that is a plus to me because that’s playoff basketball. No need in running for the heck of it like we did under Luke and Mike “the ball needs to find some energy” D’Antoni. Just win the games.
Cant have a fast paced offense if your locking down on defense for 48 minutes. Especially with older players.
Cool with slow pace—but I agree you have to limit turnovers in low possession games. We aren’t careful enough to play this slow right now.
When the playoffs come, this is exactly how the games will be. So consider it a blessing. It's this kind of pace that always seems to put the clamps on the Curry's and Harden's.
It's unrealistic to play a high pace with your best player being aged 35. Cut that out already - it ain't gonna happen. Lakers have been the ones controlling the pace by playing solid defense and forcing the other team to turn the ball over. Once Kuzma comes back, I suspect we would run more fastbreak plays but I don't see how in any way we weren't expected to be near the bottom in pace. This isn't 2008 LeBron. My primary issue with Frank is I think he's putting too much emphasis on AD getting plays drawn up for him in the 1st half and then letting LeBron "catch up" in the second half. The offense needs to be more organic. AD is elite enough of a player to make an impact without plays being drawn up for him every possession. We don't need to see him handle the ball from the three point line or posting up for a fadeaway in many of these possessions. I feel like a lot of teams sense LeBron will just pass the ball to AD anyways so they don't even bother switching onto LeBron whereas if LeBron is constantly attacking, AD becomes open by default.
It's so refreshing to see our team playing defense again, as well as actual offensive sets. Pace doesn't really matter as long as you control it (which we have been) and as said above, that's how games are won in the postseason. Vogel might not be Phil Jackson, but I'm a fan so far.
I agree with this but it still early yet. I think the coach as well as the guys are figuring this out. If we still have the same sort of issues come Allstar break then I think the criticism of the offense is warranted. So far I’m pleased with what I see. We still have work to do. We don’t have the benefit of returning the bench and system that’s been run for years like the Clippers and I feel we are so close to being right there with them. Vogel has done a good job so far. We have dictated pace and I love that type of basketball.
I'm fine with the slow, methodical pace, but the offense needs to be more smooth. I understand they did not have much time to work on it yet, but at least the D is awesome and that alone will win us a ton of games until the offense starts clicking.
agree with bang's concerns and mammajamma's patience. the offense to start games has been fugly. we can do better than that, even with our current personnel. gotta hope it irons itself out. the defense has been pretty solid, save for forgetting how to defend the pick and roll in the first half against the clippers...could have buried them if we hadn't let them get, like, seven consecutive easy buckets off the same play.
I like that a lot actually. Good for chemistry, cohesion, and morale. Gives guys a bit of a longer leash to figure things out.
You mean you’re not suppose to throw s*** at the wall every quarter and hope something sticks? Who woulda thunk.
One thing is for sure... I would rather Frank coach a team than Luke. Luke is supposed to be a player-coach but I don't think his own players even like this dude..
Walton said the same thing, or was it Byron? i’ve blocked all that crap out, so I actually don’t remember now. but I do feel like it’s the end of the game I am not left with the impression that the coaching staff is holding back the players. Is not a hindrance. it’s been a very long time since I could say that about a Lakers coach. Cautiously optimistic.
Had to put this here cause I’m tired of conforming. f*** the 3ball and the uptempo game to increase the quantity of shots. I respect shooters and their craft, but absolutely hate what it’s done to the quality of the game (thx MDA). ¡Preach mi hermano! Vogs has a ton of work to do on the offense, but it better have to do with embracing our length. f*** what the rest of the league is doing. Let's ride our own wave and have this copycat league try to emulate us again. That's the offense... meanwhile Vogs is killing it on defense! https://stats.nba.com/teams/defense/?sort=DEF_RATING&dir=-1
Pau is absolutely right here. The game evolves but chucking 167373 3's a game, all under 10-12 seconds of the shot clock is not basketball. f***ing D'Amphony and Harden, killing the sport i love. At least Euroleague is still played the right way
