Mc3 out there last night The 1-2 of McGee and Dwight is CRUSHING it! If they can sustain this, league's in trouble.
I didn’t watch the second half, but it seemed that he got sheep. I thought he would bust out. We can’t have a soft big man that gets outplayed be D39.
I don't think he got outplayed. I don't think he was properly utilized. Dwight is a better man defender, McGee is a far superior weak side defender and shot blocker. I think Vogel wanted to put a body on Harrell. Clearly that didn't work for us. We went away from our greatest strength against the Clips. Our size and our length. Vogel tried to get smaller and play down to them. A huge mistake when they're killing us on the glass. I thought his activity was fine for the limited role he had. He and Davis got caught ball watching a little early on, but after that he was fine.
Doc got us playing down to their level and took away our biggest advantage in our size. They switched up on Lebron and AD and we went hunting against the mismatches, especially in the post which renders McGee a little useless (at least offensively).
Mcgee had 2 blocks in 17 min. He altered several other shots. He should have played much more. The game changed when he was out.
i think vogel was (rightfully) concerned that dwight and mcgee's presence was mucking up the paint for AD--who was our only offense aside from danny green bombing threes. that's going to be a long-term problem as long as AD is a pf.
I was thinking about this morning - either we find a floor spacing big man or AD will have to play more 5 than he likes; I'm trying to remember how the Clips incorporated DJ and Biff? Or we can just incorporate action that includes Mcgee more often...idk. There's options, but it's something to be concerned with going forward...
great shooters at all three other positions is helpful. having the world's best pg helped biff and dj, but the clips' offense got mucked up against the best teams, too. floor-stretching 5s who can defend are...almost non-existent. it's a problem, but AD is so talented that there are workarounds. the simplest one, of course, is that he has to play minutes at center. short of that, we'll just have to hope the defensive benefits make up for the spacing problems.
I think it's a small problem that can be fixed with shooters (as you said), motion, pick and rolls, and passers (Bron, Rondo, and AD). The problem gets magnified when you run an iso and post up offense only for an entire half. Predictably and stagnation sets in and we become very easy to defend. As soon as AD finds his shot, pick and pops become a threat too and that can clear some space. With both of them in there, there is no reason we should not lead the league in offensive rebounds and second chance points.
I think you gotta feed the big men down low and impose our size on smaller lineups. When the double comes, find the open man. Hopefully AD
leonard isn't a good defender, as i recall. years back, raef lafrentz was supposed to be that guy. it didn't work, either.
