Why should NO be penalized? You serious? Cause they offered second rate service to their star with the Saints med staff and a hack in Demps.

Nawlins offered the contract so they too need to honor the kicker. They wanted to flip the 4th pick and not have it count as salary. Well guess what, we want to have AD here long term and that means an extension should be available for us to offer him.

The deal was consummated on June 15th with reports of AD waiving his kicker along with trades for Moe/JJ/Bonga on the 27th.

    Pair that with this...

And dude had every intention to get that kicker before we decided to go big game hunting. Which is fine.

What’s not fine is not having a combination of Green, Kcp, Boog, Caruso, McGee and Cook shave enough off their contracts to get back 4.1m in cap so that AD can have his kicker. Remember the trade wasn’t official till July 6th when the moratorium lifted.

What’s not fine is assuming Bron will opt out and that will allow you to go after Giannis in 2021 which explains the 2 year deals we gave out this summer. How about giving Green 3yrs 30m guaranteed like the Mavs offer. Or giving any of our other free agents a 3 year deal to drive down their 2019/20 salary hit to free up cap for AD’s kicker?

Instead we chose to play roulette with Kawhi in ‘19 and Giannis in ‘21 without locking up the guy we traded nearly everything for.

He can reup in 2020 and all this concern is for naught. But I rather sit here knowing dude can agree to an extension locking him in till 2022, instead of worry about how the entire league will conspire to drive AD out of LA.

We didn’t close on our top coach and didn’t close on our top free agent. I would be more comfortable if we weren’t given the opportunity to f*** around next summer.

I blame Jeanie only for not sincerely looking to add seasoned execs to the front office to guide our inexperienced bunch when we were given ample opportunity to do so.

I was hoping the Rox were looking at tossing Morey to the curb due to his Chinese transgressions, cause I would have liked to poach him from them.

He has failed (see Melo/Butler nontrades) and believes he’s smarter than the system (see Nene/Shump potential trade fodder contracts)...but I give major respect to the hustle and how aggressive he is at it.

Yeah, so the kicker isn’t and never was a big deal. Pretty sure time will prove me right in this one, and vash will have wasted a lot of cortisol on the issue.

I was also somewhat disapointed that we were going all in for Kawhi when we already had 2 top 7 guys. But who did you want us to get with remaining cap space?

Don't say Jimmy (wanted his own team), DLO (took ST with more years), or Kyrie (was going to go with KD regardless)

What fa's did we really miss out on, and which would take 2 years to help retool in 2 years when Lebron is older

When did LB turn into China?

McMenamin wrote about the AD trade and some of Paul’s comments were a bit cortisol inducing. So I can either comment on our possible canceled preseason games or comment on his article. The Lakers are a labor of love of mine till we get to 17. Till that, I can’t let anything go.

I liked that we went at Kawhi, but I would have liked a more satisfying contingency to it. Don’t shed contracts till Kawhi quietly gives us a commitment. If it’s a no, then finalize the AD trade with his kicker to unlock his extension.

We all heard Ky and AD wanted to play with each other so it’s a bit shocking that he wasn’t a more likely max guy for us. Butler was rumored to want to play here so that was also a shocker considering he stated previously he would never play for the Heat and they were capped out.

Vuc was a trade target of ours last year so I wouldn’t have minded we pursued that considering his contract descends annually making him a great trade asset later. Plus AD at the 4 and you still can bring in either Boog or McGee or both with the remaining cap and the room exception.

I would have done many things differently this summer, but I’ve belabored that discussion already haha.

Either way, it ain’t a good look to have a window (this summer’s 2 year contracts) where you’re hinting at Bron to opt out (can’t really be a ‘21 max free agent player if he doesn’t) all while having the guy that wants to play with him and his agency, coming up for free agency next summer.

Now if Rich/Bron/AD gave us a wink wink that Bron/AD are willing to take pay cuts so that shopping in ‘21 is a reality, then I apologize for inflicting my cortisol rage on everyone.

Till then, it’s a realistic concern cause we whiffed on our top targets both in coaching and free agency this summer and gave up a premium for a guy that pretty much forced his way here....and then had to give up his trade kicker (an extension opportunity) for nothing.

^^^Thats actually appropriate when summer ‘21 hits. Make sure you bust it out then too.

It’s wild to me how secure y’all are with our organization (when it’s evident some tinkering could be a good thing), but how insecure y’all get when someone brings up those concerns.

Did we get our top targets this summer both in coaching in free agency?

Did we lock up the guy or have him commit long term when we gave up nearly everything for him?

Being essentially our starting point guard, did we offer up more options so that Bron can get to June in one piece...actually check that, a 2 piece including dress shorts and a murse?

Did we honor the one request of our prized free agent to be by eliminating/limiting the possibility of AD playing the 5 during the regular season?

Y’all so confident we did everything right this summer, but damn them insecurities be showing like a mfer when lil ol me brings up the blemishes.

f*** it... let me get into the spirt of things around here. Giannis in ‘21 definitely happening. I’ll be Frankenstunned if it doesn’t.

Those of us who have been railing on the front office for years are probably just thanking the basketball gods that we somehow stumbled into a contender right now. (I know I am)

it’s not so much that the front office is free and clear now but that winning makes all the difference in the world. If we go out and win I think the margin of error for the front office increases.

the brand is still strong despite stinking for many years. A true run at a title puts us back on the map with any major free agents and quiets a lot of the negative noise about the franchise. That should make things easier for the front office moving forward.

I would love it if we beefed up the front office and have argued for it for years. That boat has sailed at least for now.

i think the question is where was this vasashi when the FO completely screwed the pooch last summer and everyone here recognized it while he pulled this thing:

even the people that screwed said pooch have since admitted how badly screwed said pooch was. and this was all for the big glory of the two max summer, which was also very stupid and...didn't come to fruition (OF COURSE).

so, i hope to basketball god we don't have another "here we go again" summer in 2021 which we chase a superstar who doesn't actually want to be here. i hope instead we trade for another one who does after winning for a couple years. enough with cap space.

what do we have of value now to trade for a star? We got KCP who again has a stupid default no trade clause and really no youth that is on par with the likes of Zo/Bi unless Kuzma is on the block

EtG thanks for addressing and discussing the concern civilly.

My shtick is improvement on every level till 17 and beyond.

Meanwhile what’s your shtick exactly? Complain when everybody complains and we still could do something about (ie last year approaching this summer) And then falling baaack and being a good fan when things don’t go even remotely to plan, all while waiting on the next 20xxplan to get here. Oh and with that plan, you need your star Bron to opt out to even go shopping all while his Klutch counterpart isn’t locked into a deal and will be a free agent.

Anyways, baaack to your regularly scheduled programming...

Here's the problem, respectfully, IMO, with what you continue to do. You continue to say the same things over and over and over NO MATTER how anyone replies with often excellent rebuttal. And not saying me replying again is going to be excellent. But it all makes no difference as you never concede anything to the good points made by others.

A more satisfying contingency? Are you freaking kidding? We could look forward to dominating anyone with a rotation at the 5 of Cousins and McGee and how the rest of the roster filled out. And for the money he was available for, after having recovered from the quad and now a year later removed from the achilles and all his subsequent conditioning and weight loss, you make that move 10 out 10 times because he wanted to be here and we had a good path to trying to retain him as that 3rd star, not counting Kuz in the wings as the 4th.

Considering this is how LeBron has played his whole career and prefers to play ..... and will play every damn time he pleases .... with the ball in his hands, yes IMO we have enough other people to get the ball up the floor and off to any of the other 2 or 3 offensive threats on it at any given time. Kyrie was pipe with his obvious in hindsight plans for Brooklyn with KD.

I don't care about the 2nd guy and obviously the FO did not that much either. Lue was our first choice and if failing to close him was due to us not wanting to give him a 5 year contract when Bron had 3 left, for a 2 1/2 year coaching career that showcased never winning a freaking game in 18 tries with LBJ not on the floor ..... then GOOD. He over played his own hand and didn't have enough confidence in himself to come in and succeed. Do you think with hindsight now he doesn't wish he had taken the 3 years? And in hindsight Clippersnake never intended to come and played us. Preferred the Clippers long as he could get one more star to play with. Rather than with Lebron and AD. For whatever stupid personal reasons. So he wasn't a "FAIL" And Magic sooo mucked up our appearance to the league those months leading up to FA and that it certainly did not help.

Yes. McGee got sick last year kind of freakishly and lost all those games not to injury. Was playing like an all star prior and well again finally after. See above for Boogie whom AD loved playing with in NO and at that money for his continued comeback and possibility of maybe being able to retain him .... you do that deal. Now that it went south they chose his replacement to be Dwight Howard who IS a guy that can eat up big minutes and still be a physical if not aerial force in the paint.

They've still got Boogie's roster spot to be used if Iggy or someone else can be landed that fills a great need in the front court rotation once we see how the season is going.

Is it your perfect dream with also having the perfect multiple quantities of substitutes for Lebron and AD also? No, but we did fill out the roster with shooters and a number of players that can play the 3 and even the 4 as the league is now not always putting beasts in size at these positions, and there was only so much money to work with, and we did actually owe Klutch one more year of the KCP tax for paving the way for us to land Anthony freaking Davis to pair with Lebron James.

honestly, if you told me we wouldn't land any big fish in FA after an AD trade, i'm not sure green/cousins/bradley wouldn't have been among my top three-headed targets with that 30 million. had cousins been healthy, those would probably have been our other three starters, which is a pretty good use of that amount of cash.

as for the question of who we have to trade: those guys! who was traded for jimmy butler? if the superstar FA/trade market in recent years has taught us anything, it's that the player's chosen destination can pretty much trump all other factors. so, if jimmy butler burns down another locker room and wants out, i'm guessing it wouldn't be hard for miami to be forced to trade him to us for danny green and kuzma or some such (not that i'm voting for this, just an example).

if anything, having multiple players on medium salaries instead of three on huge salaries increases trade flexibility.

i wish we had moved away from big-game FA hunting and towards value contracts and big trades sooner.
