I think a lot of folks round these parts are not going to like how big a role Rondo is going to have with AD here. Davis is our #1 guy and we're trying to make sure he stays here long term. Every chance he gets, he sings Rondo's praises. If playing Rondo a lot is the cost of keeping AD comfortable, it's a small price to pay.

This must be an old interview. "No one causing locker room problems" and no one who's "selfish." Must've been before we signed Coward.

“I’ve got Rondo back as my point guard — he’s a guy I can count on to get the ball in my sweet spot.”

Oh S***. All right load manage the f*** out of Rondo. Keep him fresh for the playoffs. Give AC Fresh most of his minutes. Play him no more than 18 minutes a game.

Some follow up positive perspective on a Rondo/AD lineup.

I'd like to know how they covered up for the spacing issues with Rondo. I guess Mirotic was just a good enough 3pt shooter at the time to give them some space, and we won't have that with Howard or McGee on the floor.

Maybe that's why Dwight is working on his 3 ball :Ha:

If Green can hit at a similar clip. If Bron's range from waaaay deep is respected. If Vogel runs smart P&R involving Rondo with McGee, Dwight, and Bron then that will create space as well. Those 3 I just mentioned are better roll men than NO's gang they played with.

Yeah. And it's not like they covered those spacing issues to great success. They still got knocked out in the second round rather easily.

To be fair, AD noted as much:

For Davis, the desire to play alongside a true center is real. Davis is comfortable playing minutes at center during the playoffs, a league source told The Athletic but prefers a true big next to him over a full regular season.

Also as Savs pointed out, the 2nd round wasn’t kind to AD after going at Nurk, Collins and Leonard in the first round.

All that said, AD can play at the 5, no doubt! But crack that cheat code during the playoffs. Till then, protect his health (and our title chances). Seems like a fair trade off to me.

Anyways, looking forward (pun intended) to AD getting more postseason exposure:

Davis is one of only three players in NBA history to log 10,000 points, 4,000 rebounds and 1,000 blocks before turning 26. In his past three seasons, Davis averaged 27.3 points, 11.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.4 steals and 2.4 blocks. That means he scored more than Steph Curry or Kevin Durant, snagged more steals than LeBron James and rejected more shots than all but one other player in the league. He’s one of only two players in NBA history (the other is this guy named Kareem) who averaged 30 points and a 50 percent field goal percentage in their first two playoff series.

I giggled a little...but no joke, playoff Rondo is a thing and I do hope Caruso plays a whole lot more in the regular season too.

So .... there's hope with Rondo playing alongside AD? Ergo .... it was LeBron that made him suck his following year on the Lakers?

If/when all 3 of our bigs decide to play D, opponents are in trouble. I think we'll lead the league in blocked shots :)

It's great having a big who can not only cross his man up, but who has the range that has to be respected that can lure the defense out to the perimeter where he can put them on skates, make them stumble, and either pull up or blow by them.

We need a backup PF. I would love for us to have Iggy but Faried would be a huge boost off our bench. A glaring issue we have is if AD is for any reason injured for a few games or needs to rest, we are very empty at that spot. I guess we could slide LeBron and Kuzma down there for a few minutes but really, it would be nice to have a guy like Faried as a backup option to hustle, grab rebounds, and set screens for our guards. I hate to say it but Melo might also be an option at this point even though I think we are still waiting out on Iggy as an option.
