I've been hearing a lot about this recently, mainly from my co-workers. I can say I am not at all knowledgeable when it comes to this topic. I've never been into science studies unfortuantely, but I do want to get into it now, if not just to learn and be more well versed. Anyone here have the insight, info, or articles that I can get a better understanding of it.
There’s probably some decent info in the original thread here https://lakersball.com/threads/climate-change.1402/ I don’t even like to discuss it because it never goes anywhere really. To me it’s a real issue, IMO we’ve screwed the planet big time and it would take changes to our entire system of being that the richest of the rich would simply not allow, so it will keep getting worse. I’m also sure it’s happened at other times in human history, but that was because of natural disasters/phenomena, where now it’s because we’ve turned the planet into a giant factory and keep destroying more and more nature.
I remember when it was called Global Warming. My dad remembers when it was called Global Cooling. Check out books on Amazon about Climate Gate.
I don't know if man-made climate change is real, but I'm always willing to listen & learn more about what actual research says on the subject. What I do know is that the side who pushes it most vocally does themselves no favors by offering up ridiculous doomsday prediction after prediction, only to continue to move the goalposts when their hysteria doesn't come to fruition. But what does their side most harm & costs it the most credibility with the general public IMO is the proposed solutions always seem to come as thinly-veiled measures to completely take over the US economy and implement Socialism. If this was as much of an exestential threat as they claim it to be, they wouldn't try to cram unpopular economy-crushing measures down our throats to "save the planet". Also, the US has actually been cutting our emissions in recent years. Highly populated developing nations like China & India are the worst polluters on the planet by far, and the AOC Green New Deal radicals don't seem to be proposing addressing this in any way with those culprits.
Great post. All I’ll say is I don’t think it does any good to make fun of people who at least want to look into this and try to make the planet a cleaner place, mocking jokes before a conversation even starts never make sense to me, how does that do any good? I know we have data on climate going far, faaar back, and I know the earth goes through cycles, but I also don’t know anyone who could tell me what the weather was consistently like for them in their lifetime pre-industrial revolution. No one here does, and no one here’s grandparents or great grandparents did, so we can joke about when it was called “this or that”, but I’ll never truly get that dismissive attitude. We are f***ing up the planet, even if not as fast as the doomsdayers say, it’s still going to cost some generation down the line what we’re doing.
