You guys are right in that we've seen it before with the Heatles, but they had alot more flexibility in that they had rights to Haslem, Joel Anthony and Wade, had 3 draft picks on their roster and traded Beasley to get even more cap but brought back 2 picks in that deal.

They had assets and at least some semblance of bodies there.

We have 4 guys (not counting newly vet min. Troy), 2020 1st, 2021 non-lottery first and that's it as far as legit assets for the next 4 years. Of those assets, Bron & AD aren't going to be used in any type of outgoing transaction.

So we are unique in rounding out this roster once Kawhi commits.

But I do agree with you guys in that we've seen something like this before with the Heatles. So that would imply we are also going the big3 route.

Another reason this isn't like Miami is I don't recall EVERY SINGLE decent FA getting picked off before the Heatles were announced. Miami had a lot of options once Wade/Bosh/Bron were locked up. It's all worth it if we get Kawhi, but we are in DEEP trouble when it comes to filling out this roster.

 

Whiteside traded to Portland. Interesting move. He's fallen off from his one good year, but gives Portland an interior presence for sure.

I'm not giving anyone credit unless we find out later than Kawhi made his mind up weeks ago and these people had inside info. Otherwise, it's pure speculation, and you don't get credit for guessing right. If Kawhi reups with Toronto, are we going to praise Woj for "knowing all along" he wasn't coming to the Lakers? Of course not.
