That's weird. Good for him I guess? It's a good attitude to have when your abilities have diminished. Kind of accepting defeat in a way though isn't it?
Personally, I just see Dirk as the ultimate teammate. He's kind of had this humble attitude throughout his career so I don't really see it as defeat. I see him being a realist. He will start and continue to do what he's doing unless going to the bench is for the betterment of the team, which the coach will decide. If Carlisle decides that Dirk as the 6th man is best for the team, he has no problem with that. Only situation where that may be possible is if they get LMA though.
makes sense. they just lost a playoff series in part because dirk had a really hard time on the defensive end against the other team's starters. it could reduce his minutes, too. aldridge/chandler/dirk would be an awesome frontcourt rotation. but they wouldn't have much going in the backcourt.
I think he's at the point where he's wanting to do whatever is best for the team. Maybe him starting and logging heavy minutes in the regular season isn't the answer. Have him as 6th man if you land a top big this summer and he'll still end up playing a good bit of minutes with the starters. Maybe he'd have something left for 1-2 more playoff runs that way.
