Rob must have thought of all possible scenarios before agreeing to do this trade and preserve his precious cap space which was/is his obsession from the very start.

Low key, ATL waived Deyonta Davis and has 6 draft picks with 12 contracts on the roster (2 RFAs and 3 non-guaranteed contracts).

ATL adds crazy flexibility as a 3rd team in an AD trade.

And don't forget, the Nets-ATL deal isn't official yet, plus you got former BK exec Trajan now as the Pels GM.... This has the potential to become a multiteam deal with AD still landing in LA, still getting his trade kicker and us retaining that max slot.

It’s like one of those creepy news montage videos where all the anchors are using the same phrases over and over and over. ESPN truly hates us and tries to paint us as negative as possible. Boston is soooo great though, but meanwhile

guaranteed NONE of those "analyst" owned up to their comments and at the same time reaffirmed the "lakers got fleeced" mantra

"Rob, how many scenarios are we able to get AD and preserve max cap space?"

    "One."

Another thing I'll say about this montage: David Griffin was a media member between his Cavs & Pels jobs. It's clear he's cultivated a solid relationship with many NBA reporters.

This manifests itself in a couple of obvious ways. During negotiations, you deploy your minions in the media to repeat narratives that increase your leverage. Watch that montage again with the understanding that these are primarily stated while the Lakers were engaged in trade talks for AD and no other team was offering elite assets. Those clips might as well have Griff sitting behind the media members working their mouths like puppets. They're remarks designed to increase Griff's leverage & squeeze out every last asset from the Lakers in AD talks.

The other obvious way we see these tight relationships come across is the media reaction to the trade once it goes down. We landed a generational talent at age 26 and we didn't trade a single All-Star to do it (& I'm high on BI/Lonzo/Hart and the picks). The Pels did the best they could have reasonably hoped to in a tough situation, but if you're picking a "winner" of the deal, it's the team that walked away with a legit 2-way MVP candidate as he's entering his prime. But yeah Woj/Windy/Ramona/etc please do go on about how Griff fleeced us. *YAAAAAAAAAAAWN*

Especially when the very same package that even included Kuz was still "not enough." But somehow a regressed Tatum who showed he was too ball dominant to play next to Kyrie was transcendent, or the Knicks package centered around the worst statistical player in Knox and a complimentary player at best Mitchell Robinson were somehow equal to what anything the Lakers offered...hypocrisy at it's finest.

This is going to be so fun to watch.

B-b-b-but Woj said we’re a big bunch of dumb-dumbs who don’t know our A from a home in the ground.

(To be clear, Rob stinks at this but he’s not stupid.)

Rob's only issues is his manos clergy religious sermons. If you take that lame crap away, he has actually been GM during a time where Lebron James and Anthony Davis have arrived. And more is coming. If the Lakers win a title next year, it's the all-time tying trophy with a good chance of passing the following year. s*** is about to get real.....REAL SOON.

So basically we need to salary match in the AD trade and the only way to do that is dumping Wagner, Bonga and Jones to a 3rd team so that way we don't use any of our cap space to absorb AD's salary? Did I get that right?

If we send out Hart, Ingram, Zo, Wagner, Bonga and Jones - $22.8M - which would match AD's salary of $27.1M under the salary cap rules...meanwhile we sign a MAX FA at the full max...I LOVE IT.

Hey guys, remember when Woj got scooped by a Dallas Cowboys reporter and his precious negative Lakers spin went up in smoke? I member...

It's a good thorough breakdown, but essentially what this guy is saying is that we sub out the 7.1m signed 4th pick with the aggregated amount of Kuz/Moe/Bonga/JJ's 6.9m, to bypass the 30 day wait window.

So the order of operations is sign Kawhi/Butler with our 32m (32.5m if we waive JJ) in cap space and then trade the farm for AD where the 4th pick holds $0 value in aggregation but Zo/BI/Kuz/Hart/Moe/Bonga/JJ's 24.8m would be enough to trade for AD + his trade kicker.

So the "solution" to our 30 day wait time would be to trade everybody. Thanks...I guess. But I rather wait the 30 days, spare Kuz, Moe, Bonga & JJ and use our near max space of 32m on Kawhi in the mean time.

That being said, if the deal is in danger of falling apart then you give it the ol' done deal asap. But I personally think its chatter that AD's trade kicker is blocking anything and that we bumbled our max slot away. There's no way that could have happened...but we've been shocked by this FO before.
