If they agree in principal on a trade, but just delay the execution, why can’t they bring guys in to work out? They also still have the #1 pick.

Well I mean, we always work guys out that are mocked to be in the second round without having a second round pick...

If this trade is completed over the weekend like everyone is saying, they'll have a couple days before the draft to bring anyone in that they want. All teams need is to agree to a trade in principle, it'll get completed when it should be later.

    Slightly old news:

Lakers initial offer that they were putting together last few days was rejected but Pelinka and Kurt are currently in active dialogue with Griffin at the moment to see if they can get something done. Lot of negotiating going on but not sure around what. Looks to be a 3 team deal. Griffin claims NY is still in the play but may be a leverage move on his part, no way to know for sure.

Stay tuned. I'm pretty preoccupied today but if the deal closes in principle you'll hear about it right away from someone else.

    Best,
    Mr. Rambis

They said in articles, on tv interviews, multiple podcasts I’ve listened to that if they have the pick or multiple picks in the lottery after #1 they can get these other guys to actually come in for a workout or interview or whatever, where right now everyone knows they’re taking Zion #1 so they won’t waste their time. That’s really the best reason they’d want to get this done as soon as possible, if they’d be getting multiple picks in the top 10, say from Atlanta, I dunno.

    Hey @lavar-is-trash !

Don't have this degree of detail currently, but it doesn't contradict anything I have heard so far. The Lakers made their initial offer yesterday but the Pelicans have countered and now they are in a back and forth. Three team deals are tricky so makes sense that the problems arose due to that.

Did Boston not get the memo this morning that was intentionally pushed to get them to back the f*** off?

Windhorst just talking about this on The Jump, says this means the Lakers and Pelicans probably have the framework for a deal in place, and the Pelicans are shopping the #4 pick to see what they can get for it, obviously want an all star.

If Boston puts their max offer up, we lose. Try to improve the team now while maintaining max flexibility for 2020.

Yet they lose long-term. Kyrie walks, AD walks, Tatum is gone, their treasure trove of picks is gone.

Was able to confirm via text... #4 pick is the holdup. Trying to find a third team to give up a player the Pelicans want for the pick. Seems to line up with media reports.

Eh, we thought George and kawhi would leave. And even if kawhi does leave, he gave them their best season ever.

    But yeah, it's a gamble.

Yeah, but the Raptors only had to give up one good player to get Kawhi and actually got back a good player with him in Danny Green. They already had Siakam, Lowry, Ibaka, VanVleet, they were deep. If Kyrie leaves to NY or wherever else, and the C Bags have to give up Tatum, they have AD, Hayward and Horford. I don’t know if they can keep even Morris after that. That’s not just a gamble, it’s a huuuuge gamble, they’d still be 4th in the East to me.

Not getting my hopes up until this deal is closed. So many things can change and fall apart with big deals like this.

Rob needs to close this. Coming out with AD after all that’s happened with this franchise in the past year would be HUGE for the Lakers. No one will remember losing Kuz/Ball/Ingram, but they will remember the failures. Don’t get cute with this.
