#9 to dump wall? seems like a dream. i suppose having a star under contract might be a sell in NO, but man...that would be a weird return for davis. wall/ingram/#4/#9?

btw, if wall's traded right now, his salary only counts as 19 million, right? so a three-way deal with washington/la/NO actually could work pretty easily. it could even spare lonzo AND kuzma, i think...

but that all depends on NO wanting wall, which would surprise me.

probably more like 5-6. if 2019 picks are involved, NO needs some time to sort through possibilities.

yeah, wall's deal would be up right when it's time to pay zion and this year's other draftees. it would mean they're pretty much killing cap flexibility, but then again, nobody signs in NO anyway. better to operate over the cap and use trades to improve.

    i want to believe.

Beal may fit the allstar criteria, even if he technically hasn't been one. Griffin's demands seem to indicate we'd have to give up all 4 (zo, BI, kuz, #4) to get something done.
    Lakers: AD
    Washington: Lonzo, Kuzma, filler
NO: Beal, Ingram, #4, future 1st

    F*** that, TBH.

Yeah. I was thinking something like this with the Suns or Bulls.

Abeer: if a trade is agreed upon before the draft, it becomes official when the moratorium begins and the new salary year starts.

For example, BK will be picking for ATL or doing whatever ATL tells them to do with that pick in case it gets traded again, but that player's rights will be traded post-draft (see the Bonga trade).

Whether it's pre-draft where the unsigned picks count as $0 on the books but count as a caphold or it's post-draft where capspace opens up and capholds can get renounced, a hold up on a deal won't have cap limitations (ie how much Jwall or any other player's contracts count towards the books) cause the timing of it all will be what is beneficial to the team, whether it's pre or post draft/FA moratorium.

I think the deal is close and hope it doesn't fall apart. We can't keep doing this dance especially given how it clearly impacted the players involved.

If the Lakers get this deal done this week, Kyrie is coming to Lakers. I don't see how that's not possible at that point.

yeah, i'm not sure this is the plan, though. beal's cost is going to be high in itself. nobody can deliver griffin beal + blue chip, either, imo.

    hmmm...didn't know that.

is this always the case? i'm pretty sure picks get traded pre-draft, officially.

my head's spinning a bit. i know that picks don't count as salary until they're signed, right? but we have a cap hold for that amount come july...but we can currently make trades, which can include picks...

these are from the CBA FAQ:

depends on the configuration of the trade--we need to have a max slot left.

That's my only thought on these multiple team trades. Wondering if we will end up taking someone back.

Still should be in a position to grab some solid vets though.

Don't get it twisted with this line from the report:

You don't need a deal to be officially done by the time the draft comes. You just need it agreed upon in principle before it becomes official later (see the BK-ATL trade that can't be made official till the free agency moratorium/new cap year starts.)

All that being said, there is a number of paths that can happen...Nawlins can have unsigned draft picks traded to them that count as $0 in salary value, which means they cant be aggregated into a deal to make the salary numbers work. Or the other path is they can wait 30 days for a signed pick to be aggregated into a deal.

For example Zo/BI/unsigned 4th will not work in a trade for AD... salaries dont match. But it does work if we partially take in AD with our cap space.

On the flip, a Zo/BI/signed 4th works salary wise in a AD trade, but we would have to wait 30days for it to be official and that path won't necessarily limit us from going shopping in free agency.

So bottomline: we have flexibility for days no matter what scenario. There is no strict timeline when it comes to cap maneuverability.

When it comes to the 2019 draft picks, Griff just wants to know which picks will be Nawlins bound eventually in order to scout them...but a deal can be officially official weeks from now although for all intent and purposes a deal is already done now.

Hope that helps clear any confusion.

We can "agree" on the trade, and not have it become official until after Free Agency is set.

If we can tell Free Agents we have the AD deal in place and waiting them as a domino, that's an instant trump card.

If this happens I will run naked through the streets.

Well, naked under my clothes, at least . . . and not so much as a run, but a brisk walking pace . . . but you get the idea.

I think the first 4 picks are set with Zion, Ja, RJ and Garland. Looks like this deal will be done this week. Thank God, this needs to be over. Tired of thinking about.
