All I heard was that the money doesn't work perfectly with that proposed trade, for whatever reason. May or may not be true. Do keep in mind the Lakers are assuming they're getting Kawhi or a max FA, so things may be dynamic on that front. The stuff about it needing "a lot of work" was my personal opinion because of the salary mismatch, and I do not understand the cap at all.

Serious negotiations need to start first. Since Griffin hung up, it may take time again for talks to start up, and this time in a more meaningful way.

It’s concerning that Griffin hung up right away on this. I say that because I think we are all hoping the “final” offer that gets the deal done isn’t too far off from this.

We would likely also include Ingram, and the draft picks in the counter offer are pretty much what’s expected at this point.

If Griff didn’t entertain this at all, it shows his mindset is actually to also get Ingram and Ball in the deal too.

I’m not sure if he concedes and allows us to keep one of the 3 kids.

If you were Griffin, would you take that deal? I sure as hell wouldn't.

I think a counter of Ingram or Zo, Hart, Wagner, #4, and (2) future 1sts would be a win-win

I'd take that over Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart, and the #14 pick.

I suppose as negotiations go, that's what needed to happen. He asks for something ridiculous. You ask for something ridiculous in return. Then try to come up with something in the middle like Ingram, Lonzo, and the #4 for AD. If it happens, that's what it's going to be. I like how we didn't include either of the two players (Ingram and Lonzo) the Pelicans are rumored to love. :D

the one-year S&T has to be KCP, and it can't really be a one-year, right? it would have to be three years with two non-guaranteed years on the back end. problem is we'd have to renounce bird rights to KCP to sign a max, making him ineligible for a S&T of this magnitude, i believe.

in other words, if rob actually proposed that, he doesn't understand the cap. i doubt that, but these are the modern era lakers, so...

i do like countering a laughable offer with another laughable offer, though.

ingram/hart/#4/top 5 protected 2020 pick/2021 pick swap should be enough to top boston or ny's offers. i'd make sure NO knew that offer was on the table before i let them hang up again. if they want lonzo and ingram (or equivalent value), i make them prove they can get that elsewhere.

they have memphis's lotto pick either next year or the year after, too. gotta figure that's in their initial offer.

but the deal i outlined above is still better, imo.

If they want Lonzo and Ingram and Kuz, Hart, plus multiple 1st's from us, I want/wish we get AD and Jeru Holiday, but I doubt we could even make that work without adding LeBron to the trade.

Plus if this is their ask for AD, I couldn't imagine the ask for a package deal. They'd ask for the statues out front to be included.

problem is that i think ball's more valuable than the 6th pick in this draft. i'm guessing NO thinks so, too.

that does work Cap wise....as we could've signed a MAX guy and still made this AD trade if Zo n BI are included....Jrue is only at 26mill right now but value wise no way Pelicans are just gona "throw in" Jrue, he's finally showing he's a good player and no longer constantly injured

I just don't believe that Griffin doesn't want to see how Davis, Zion, Jrue play together before anything happens. To not at least test this out is insane. I know Davis might still want to be traded but he's under contract. I truly believe a trade doesn't happen till once the season has begun. I know some will argue that the Pelicans lose leverage the longer this goes and what happens if AD gets hurt. Those are valid points, but it also makes some since to force Davis' hand in seeing how well he's paired with Zion.

they also lose the certainty of the draft picks. right now, you know the approximate value of the current picks, but once the season starts, it's harder to gauge what the 2020 pick values will be. not to mention that the end of last season was super awkward. why have that hanging over your head when you should be excited to start a new era with zion?

You don't want that type of distraction hanging around your prized rookie though. Not when you can get assets that are closer to his age and will grow with him. Ingram and Garland for example with Zion. That's a great start. Let them grow together knowing they will be together for the long haul. You don't want to taint your prized rookie with that type of media circus. Bad blood festering all over the second he walks through the door.

i'm confident that we have the best package for a team in NO's position. but you can't know what they want. if they decide to go get a current allstar or more established player like SA and indy did, respectively, maybe we're not the right place.

but to get some high level young talent and picks? we have that. the #4 is huge in that regard, imo. YUGE even.

had it been the 11, i think we'd be having to get closer to godfather offers.
