right. none of our guys will EVER sniff AD's impact, and that's why i was on board with the godfather offer several months ago. now, it's bad business. AD for all that isn't delivering a title (is lebron better than holiday and every other pelican combined?), and it's ensuring that we've got no way to improve for several years.

cut that package in half, then negotiate up. no way that i'm giving them even three of the four of ball/kuz/ingram/#4. you get two. any two you want, but just two. then we haggle on future firsts and swaps.

If we get Davis, prepare to overpay, fellas, IMO.

To clarify, I’m talking about the deals I’ve heard where we keep at least one of Ingram, Ball, Kuz, the pick.

I’ve been pretty vocal about my dislike of the Hornets and us looking and acting desperate. That’s definitely not what I’m getting at here.

But if Griffin is at the table negotiating in good faith and we’ve got a legit shot at AD, then do it.

We saw what happened with George and what’s likely going to happen with Kawhi. I don’t think we should wait for him.

I think we will overpay it’s just a question of how much. If we had a real GM this wouldn’t be a worry but we got Linda so I guess we’ll see.

I don’t think it will be that godfather deal though. I do think the price will be high.

Teams are seeing that they have a shot at keeping guys in these one year rental situations. I think the market for AD will be more active than what people think.

There really isn't an overpay for him. Lakers would be getting a big who just turned 26 whom is arguably the best big in the game. Bigs going into their late 20s is prime years. Players would be coming in droves, especially for Anthony Davis because AD is not a selfish loud mouth and plays well with everyone.

I pretty much agree. I just think we will have to give up more than other teams might.

guess i'm not sure what constitutes an overpay? and what that means about how far you'd go. imo, we can beat pretty much any offer we've heard so far without coming close to completely emptying the chamber.

i mean, if, say, washington steps in and offers beal despite davis claiming he won't stay, we probably can't compete (a la kawhi), but ny and boston can suck our dust with half of our max offer. if NO wants to cut off their nose to spite their face, let them. those assets can be turned--by a competent gm*--into something else of similar value. in fact, splitting that package in half might bring in two allstars in the right circumstance, perhaps AFTER signing another one into space. ingram/#4? ball/kuz/future 1st? tell me those don't match packages sent for stars in the past (look at the harden deal, for example).

NO needs to understand that during negotiations. their job is to get the best offer from the market, not to squeeze us for everything we've got. it's not the same thing.

Well I think the grandfather deal with everything was getting fleeced.

I think giving up three out of our core young guys and the pick is overpaying but I’d consider it depending on whatever we’d have left to work with and whoever we sign in free agency.

I’m definitely open to multiple deals bringing in multiple stars though and get the point you are making.

I don't want him at this cost. Would rather see us lead them on and drop the ball towards them.

Offer Ingram, Kuzma, and #4. Just get it done. Keep Lonzo, sign Kyrie. The goal is titles now and we don't have time to go back and forth. AD is clearly the goal and the Klutch preferred route, so just do it. Build the super team.

Keep Kuz, get Kyrie if AD comes. Lebron, Kyrie and AD win a title next year with Kuz, barring injuries.

Can’t trade for AD until after a free agent signs if we want a free agent to sign, money doesn’t work. So we have to wait until after draft day if our plan is 3 stars, have to pick with who we want as well as the Pelicans, or have a deal in place and select for them as well as us if the deal falls through, very tricky.

Let me know what other offers you get Grif, and I’ll TRY to top it.

That is so absurd, nobody should believe it actually occurred unless truly from a posturing standpoint. It’s silly to even give a response.

Here's what we know: Pelicans know we have the best package bar none. We know the Pelicans know we have the best package.

Griffin wants to fleece us of course, now it depends on Rob how much we throw away for an often hurt player

Don't worry guys, this isn't a "real" offer. You always ask for the moon when starting a negotiation. Griffin wanted to gauge how desperate the Lakers were after all the bad press, so he offered a Brooklyn-like deal. Pelinka obviously turned it down.

As of today, Pelinka wants to give up much less, and he's looking for a 3rd team to see if there's something there. However, he's not a good negotiator, in my opinion. It's much different negotiating a star player's contract versus an NBA trade. You have a lot more leverage in the former scenario. I have not been impressed with Pelinka's skills in that aspect so far, knowing how those negotiations have proceeded from start to finish.
