Gulp. Rondo is going to have very very very few suitors this summer... His agent must be ripping the hair out of his skull right now.
And if his back injury is a real injury and not just a way to suspend him without making waves, my 6-7 million offer this afternoon went to 3-4 million.
WOW! From the head coach?? DURING a playoff run??? That's awful... Wow... That's honestly incredible.
Heck even if it's not real, then it's an attitude problem so strong that Dallas is clearly done with him. I don't want him near Clarkson if he's got THAT bad an attitude and I certainly am not handing out long-term deals to him. If Rondo wants to come here to back-up Clarkson on a 2/8 million dollar deal then maybe we can talk. Otherwise, get out. We've got a team to build.
I wonder if it's a case of he simply does not want to be in Dallas period. I thought it was a strange trade myself with them already having Ellis who primarily handles the ball anyway. If that's the case then I do worry about the professionalism and what might happen if he doesn't see eye to eye with Scott in the event he signs here. Maybe he performs better and things are cool if he's with a team he wants to be on and player he truly wants to play with. Nevertheless I'm sure our front office has an eye on that situation and will do what's best for the future.
Count me as officially off the Roundo train. Injured again and craptastic attitude with Carlisle? I don't want him for even Vet's minimum any more.
I want no part of him in P&G. I keep hearing it's a done deal. No idea why. I'd rather let the Clarkson development play out.
I think even the biggest Rondo haters (like myself) find this a bit surprising. I don't see it as a fit problem. Either you let Rondo dominate the ball and do poorly...or you witness what happens in Dallas. Instead of focusing on Dallas, take a look at the C Bags. They just made the playoffs without Rondo. They played 0.36 ball with him. When they traded him away, they played another 28 games and were essentially the same team. They actually marginally improved. Then they got Isaiah Thomas (a PG that actually helps your offense) and started doing well. They were 14-7 with Isaiah Thomas and he was a huge reason for that playoff push.
Yeah I think this is the last straw. Diminished game, injury prone, AND a bad enough attitude to be excused from the team in the middle of a playoff run... What in the world happened to this guy? At this point I'll offer him a "prove it" contract, but that's about it. Not only has he diminished talent-wise, but he's also not getting along with other players so he's not a FA draw now either. Not much to offer here unless he changes his attitude this summer and signs a short-term deal.
The Mavs can blame Rondo all they want (Rightfully so), but this defense they are playing is absolutely PATHETIC.
