This is..wow, kinda blown away. I’m an innocent until proven guilty, don’t jump to conclusions kind of person, but I don’t know about this one, not a lot of reasons I can see she’d be making this up.

For those who are curious, the statute of limitations for sexual assault in California is two years. Hence why there is only a lawsuit and no criminal complaint.

    Nope,10 years

Under the existing law, the statute of limitations for a civil action for sexual assault is two years, as sexual assault currently falls under the same limitations as assault and battery. Similarly, a survivor of domestic violence has three years from the date of the last act of domestic violence to bring a civil action against the person accused.

Now, AB 1619 will set the statute of limitations for sexual assault to 10 years after the last act or attempted act of sexual assault.

Is it theoretically possible? yes. Is it likely? common sense says no.

Whenever such a story comes out YEARS after it has happened...it is BS to me until proven otherwise. Another gold digger trying to get a piece of the pie.

What stopped her from filing this lawsuit 3 years ago? Or when they met again and he made sexual comments towards her?

i've luckily never been involved in such a thing, but the timing of disclosure is always interesting to me. i'm sure there are reasons why this stuff waits for years before coming to the surface, but it would be better for victims (and anyone who is accused but innocent) if reporting happened closer to the incident.

Me Too may get all over them with protests.

OK so long history per Tania's LA Times article above as Kelli had played "highly competitive" volleyball same time as Luke's wife, and he'd mentored her with media career and written a forward in a book she wrote that had just published before the first and main incident.

If true, regarding the timing, only thought is she did not want to bring grief at the times to the Warriors or the Lakers, but has no qualms now with Kings?

And / or wants money as she hasn't worked in TV since Spectrum. That seemed surprising as she was covering multiple sports, not just the Lakers.

I take it you've never had to deal with a loved one in this position. If not, I understand your take. I hope you never have to deal with it, but if it happened to someone you know, it would be insanely obvious why people wait or never report these things.

I'll let everything play out before really commenting on it.

All I'll say is that we don't really know any of these people and nothing can be ruled out. Way too early to pick a side or argue it one way or another.

Yeah, its not at all uncommon for women to wait.

    Many never say anything.

You are correct in your assumption. I don't disagree that maybe I don't get it thoroughly. But my thinking is as follows:

She wasn't "raped" as the report says. So I would assume the psychological damage is rather "limited" if that makes sense. You can get over it sooner probably than years.

Also if a victim NEVER comes out with the story, I understand it because it is hard to deal with questions with regard to your sexual life, privacy etc. Your name gets thrown out there and whenever someone googles your name, thats the first, second and last thing that pops up. So I do understand if someone doesn't want to deal with the sh**storm after the accusations are out there. Thats logical and makes sense to me.

But when you come out crawling 3-4 years later, it defeats the purpose and its fishy to say at least and raises an eyebrow. It doesn't mean she is lying, but she doesn't get the benefit of the doubt, nor should she (in dubio pro reo). If she can prove that it happened, good for her and it means Luke is a terrible human being. If she has some unsubstantiated claims which is likely to be the case, do we give her the benefit of the doubt? The law typically says no with good reason.

The probability that she is saying the truth isn't any higher than Luke being innocent.

I’ll wait to hear more. I don’t like the terminology in these cases. Sexual assault is a huge range of cases, and what he’s accused of is neither the most severe nor the least severe in that range. Perhaps it’s closer to the less severe though. All that said, sometimes people take time to process what happened. And after a time they realize they cannot continue to heal without confronting and/or seeing the offender face justice. In other cases it takes time to process. It’s honestly hard to come forward and accuse someone - because there will be those who don’t believe you and even some who will blame you.

Maybe high profile cases are different. But in most cases there’s no reason to fabricate a story.

What if the Lakers get dragged in? Say .... after Luke was coach here and as she maintains he continued with the sexual harassment and attitude toward her, she went to someone in her chain of command and that is the reason she disappeared from the Lakers and Dodgers (Spectrum) and her career really cratered on her from that point on? Would totally be a Me Too situation. Have to wait and see. Hope that is not the case. Our "show"here already has waay too much s***.

Yes. Supposedly ESPN is or was coming with a piece. I think Magic alluded to it even vaguely that there was no basis. Right around the time after him bailing out.
