Crap, one of my only reasons to watch the Lakers has now been eliminated.

Absolutely Cookie. We lost our only bright spot after the ASG.

it must suck for BI knowing his ascension is mostly for others to benefit as in just raising his trade value....all thanks to our resident genius, magical President

Actually, after the Milwaukee loss, Lebron walked to the locker room early...

I saw that and wondered if anyone else did. The 2 teams were still out on the floor and Lebron is half way down the tunnel....but he’s a great teammate lol.

Went to the game last night hoping to see Ingram play and of course, he was out.

He's probably out for the Denver game as well...just terrible. Was playing the best ball of his career and had to miss the most critical game of the season

Fab, I am not sure there is anything critical about that game. We are not going to make it.

@fabfourlakers was/is at that game, that’s critical enough for me.

He is out for the season. . . just wow. let's get those ping pong balls!!

He was really killing it the past few weeks before this injury... what a forgettable season.

    Pretty much nothing went right...

I need some optimism for my Lakers, too much stress and pain and sadness and disappointment yet again.

Anyone who is more medically knowledgeable wanna chime in? What’s the recovery for something like this and is it possible it has long term consequences for his career?

Sounds similar to a blood clot which is what had to end Bosh’s career...

It depends. It can be very serious if it returns, but it doesn't have to be as far as I know. He would have to miss a month+ of basketball for sure and we're shutting him down for the season anyway.

I don't want to be too negative, but it could potentially end his basketball career.

Upper extremity DVT is not as life threatening as lower DVT (which can lead to a pulmonary embolism and respiratory distress).

BI's condition is associated to repeated motion/activity like shooting/lifting weights. It can be due to an underlying structural deficit like thoracic outlet disorder, the narrowing/compression of vasculature. So they're going to have to rule that out first.

I'm sure they're going to look into thrombolytic treatment and that could be through prescription drugs and/or surgical treatment (ie venoplasty and/or bypass).

Lots of conclusive testing ahead and obviously, lifting and shooting of any kind should be limited or completely abandoned in the short-term.

Advanced medicine is picking up on alot of this now...its not like effort thrombosis wasn't affecting athletes before and BI is a rare case. We have to see if he has a pre-existing structural defect before we can rule this as severe or cause for concern in terms of his playing career.

I really feel sorry for Brandon, but at this point I am not even thinking about the team and everything that went wrong this season. It's truly not worth it. I think we should collectively prepare for the summer, hope that Ingram is going to be OK and then maybe enjoy some playoff games. Fear the Deer!

    Medical student here.

Lower DVT's are much more common than Upper DVT's. It's very rare in general to get a upper extremity DVT. Chris Bosh had recurrent lower extremity DVT's and had a pulmonary embolism, which is when the clot travels to your lungs.

To add to what vasashi said above, if the thoracic outlet was involved, the surgeons might also have to do a thoracic outlet decompression in addition to the thrombolysis. Another option that the doctors could do is to place a catheter into the venous system to get to where BI's clot is at to directly deliver the thombolytic medicine straight to the clot.

He's going to be on at least months (American College of Chest Physicians recommend a 3 month period of this) of oral anti-coagulation (blood thinners) to prevent additional blood clots from occurring.

I believe they'll him work up for other genetic conditions that increases the chances of getting a blood clot as well.

Am I correct in saying that no one should play professional basketball while being on anti-coagulation medications?
