I think at this point Lakers just wannt to ride the season out with Luke so that we keep losing and we gain another asset (lotto pick). With the 3rd strongest schedule...might as well ride it out and see where he end up...shut down LeBron and just tank the rest of the season.
Most teams don't want to burn out a new coach by having him start with a mess. Therefore I think Luke will definitely finish the season before Kidd is appointed
At this point the pick would be a great asset. Our best scenario now is GSW and out in the first round anyways. We aren't beating the Nuggs either. Kyrie bails to NY, C Bags won't make good offer for AD anymore, KD and/or Klay bail on GSW, somebody signs here and the landscape has changed.
Lakers better really do some vetting with the next coach. No more, let's hire the first guy that makes you wet, like that idiot Jim Buss would do. Interview 4 or 5 coaches, preferably young and up and coming and guys that have the energy and the focus to coach for a decade and have some cred behind them. When I say young, I mean young as a head coach not age. If the Lakers find a 50 year old with the energy and skills to coach, get him.
If we hired Doc, would he finally start counting the Laker championships from our time in Minnesota as opposed to passive aggressively discounting them as if they were a different franchise?
I'm actually fine with Doc, he generally hires good assistants. But isn't he under contract still? Anyways, I'd rather get some new blood like an assistant (Messina) or a college coach.
https://www.latimes.com/sports/clippers/la-sp-clippers-rivers-contract-20180523-story.html He’s actually not available, and I am pretty sure Ballmer would prevent him from jumping ship .
I don't know if this has been posted yet...but Stein reports that Luke is a dead man walking: https://nba.nbcsports.com/2019/03/04/report-lakers-expected-to-fire-luke-walton-after-season/
Are people serious with this Doc-talk? Did the crazy pills just get handed out? Yes, I'm sure Doc will pack up and leave his job of 6 years, working for the richest owner in the nba who he just signed a contract extension with, while they are doing well and clearly making moves for the future, likely to add a superstar or 2 in the next few years if not this summer all to come work for the most unstable, flaky organization in the league as far as coaching is concerned. An organization that is partial to hiring ex-Lakers for management/coaching and who detests C Bag legends. We've had 6 coaches since 2011. Half were bought out of contracts. Talking about hiring Doc is about as sane as talking about hiring Pop. And Arash is wrong, there is a reason to wait until the season is over before canning Luke: PR - we have a terrible image among coaches for being trigger-happy flakes. Give Luke the decency of a full 3rd season. There is no hot coach prospect we need to snag up this second that can't wait.
I don’t understand how Luke still has a job. Yeah, nothing’s going to change with under 20 games left, but you should still get the inevitable over with now. That way this team that has clearly tuned him out can move on, he can move on, just rip the band aid off already. You’re not doing Luke any favors letting him go down with the ship, you’re not doing the players any favors knowing their playing for a dead man walking and listening to a voice that won’t be here in 2 months. I’m starting to believe this is a Jeanie thing, because we’ve seen the kind of rash decisions Magic makes before and he said Luke was coach unless something drastic happens. Well, I’d say missing the playoffs is drastic. This wouldn’t actually be a rash decision for once, it’d be the correct one.
thinking about it now, why the hell did anyone think luke was a good hire? because he coached the warriors to a 30-1 record or whatever in kerr's absence? a rock would have coached that team to the same record what a stupid decision it was to bring in a guy with no experience to coach a team full of young players
