we look like crapz right now, not sure he would sniff this unless he see we get AD.

but do trade season start before the draft? can we trade for AD before FA starts? I'm messed on the timeline and sick we still looking at the draft to save us. suckz

Klay with Lebron and AD would be insane. JR Smith looked like an all-star at times playing with Lebron. Klay would shoot 55% from 3 playing next to Lebron.

I think the draft starts before trade season so if this yrs pick is included in an Ad trade, we'd be the one picking for them

you can trade pre-draft. teams usually don't because you're in weird cap space limbo, but player for player deals (as long as players are under contract through the following year) involving or not involving picks can happen. the other issue is that first round picks can't be traded two consecutive years, so if you traded last year's (or next year's), then you have to wait until you make the pick to move it.

but yeah, tons of trades happen pre-draft and on draft night, which is usually a couple weeks prior to FA.

technically, i think trade season re-opens as teams miss/get eliminated from the playoffs...not positive, but i feel like trades have happened during the playoffs among non-competitors...but that may be old brain happening.

1st rd picks can't be traded b2b in future scenarios, they could've traded this yrs pick any time they wanted...after last yrs pick conveyed we're no longer under that rule.

Yep that's right. Even playoff teams can pull off trades, as long as the player they trade isn't on their playoff roster.

You can't trade expirings tho or players with option years the following year (ie player option or ETO).

The case with Boston.... They can't trade their picks to the Pels for AD (could be for another Pel player tho that would be packaged in an AD trade) before the draft, since the Rose rule prevents AD and Ky on the same team till after July 1st if/when Ky gets a new deal after he opts out on June 30th. He will opt out, but if Ky doesn't, AD can't get traded to Boston even next year.

Back to the picks tho...if Pels agree to trade AD, those picks would have to be agreed upon earlier so that Boston can pick for them.

However if AD is adamant, he doesn't want to be traded to Boston...then trade talks wouldn't be so transparent for Boston...with the Pels not really clarifying who they would want with those picks...Boston would have to pick in the dark.

On the flip, if the Pels state who they like in the draft but are seesawing on dealing AD to Boston, then would Ainge ignore his own wishlist and just draft who the Pels would want with the possibility of the deal going sideways and getting stuck with players who the Pels picked?

    Gonna be an interesting summer.

    Soundbyte from The Shop:

...oh s***, Pops/Rich ain't telling him what to do. AD to Boston confirmed (#LakersBawlConspirators probably)

AD won’t come. He wears 23. Why he give up his number to a player worse den him?

I know we were caught up in the moment, but would you still trade all 3 of our kids for AD this summer?

Obviously free agency is a huge factor. If we land one of the 4K's in free agency, I'd only give them Kuzma and picks. If we strike out, I'd give them 2 of our kids but keep BI or Ball.

It doesn't matter. Tatum >>>>>> every Lakers great, past or present.
On a serious note though, the "3 kids packege" should be OFF the table the second they mocked us. Never to return again!

Agreed completely. And no 1st round picks attached preferably.

A lot depends on where we finish in the standings and where our pick is. If we somehow sneak into the top 3, then the pick, Kuzma and Hart will trump just about anything. If we make the playoffs and have the 15th pick, we likely will have to give up picks, Hart and two of Kuz/Ingram/Ball.

Pels have a vacancy, looking for a rebuild and have an affinity towards picks.

Dude is born and raised in Louisiana and is part of the Lakers scouting team right now.

Damn Jamison just might be the foot in the door for AD that we need.

I really enjoyed his time here in LA, even though it was brief and towards the end of his career, I think Antawn really liked the Lakers organization as well and stuck around.

always liked jamison going back to his GS days and was very happy when he joined the lakers in 12-13. unfortunately he was badly misused by stupid a** d'antoni even though he played very well when he actually got to see the floor

i think the lakers realized that which is why they offered him a job with the organization after he retired. guy sounds like an all around good dude and i hope he gets that chance to be a GM in the future

and he nailed it on the head with regards to needing to move on from using the past to recruit players. that was kupchak's biggest downfall in his last years as GM. he'd point to the banners and retired numbers thinking it'd be the best tool to convince potential FA's to come to LA instead of some small market team but that's just not how this new generation operates. they couldn't care less about how many titles a team has won

Has undertones of Silver not really getting in the way this summer to block anything, if the competing owners make a stink of it. Almost sounds sympathetic to AD. He also insinuates that maybe the Pels are more to blame with the s*** show that's transpired since.

The league doesn't own the franchise anymore, so they can't block it.

Everyone knows the real reason the NBA vetoed the CP3 trade was because after they just signed a new CBA to strengthen small market teams, the Lakers announced a trade that represented exactly the opposite. Demps thought he had authority to make the trade, and he probably did, but then Stern was able to come in at the 11th hour on a technicality and veto trade, and had plausible deniability by saying that it wasn't a good basketball move for the franchise. Major conflict of interest there, but whatever...

The CBA does allow a commissioner to veto a trade, I don't think that clause has ever been invoked. Stern actually did so in 2011 as the "owner's representative" and overstepped his bounds for sure, but he did do it by the rulebook.

Oh, I know they legitimately can't block it unless tampering is blatantly obvious.

Even in Joe Smith tampering investigation, Minny was obviously guilty and still Joe was not blocked by signing there as a free agent.

Others have expressed concern that Silver will be pressed to block it and I just wanted to address that demographic with my comments.
