TREASURE CHEST OF PICKS THOUGH. At least someone is reading the fine print on them and not acting like they have 4 guaranteed #1 overall picks.

If this is true, are the Lakers and Pelicans REALLY that far off from having a deal?

The first round pick swaps are nothing as the Lakers are going to be better and therefore have worse picks. That’s just noise in the deal. Makes it look like we are giving more when we aren’t.

The second round picks - Yes sure they are probably going to be 50+ you can buy those if need be

Three unprotected picks - The Lakers were willing to give 2 - This is a talking point - If they let us keep Hart or Zubac then add it - If not they get 2 picks

Players - Lonzo, Ingram, Kuzma, KCP (Bullock trade makes him expendable) are givens in the deal. That leaves Zubac and Hart.

So the deal hinges on a first round pick, Zubac and Hart....

Break it down to a 1st round pick or Zubac/Hart or 1st round pick + Zubac or Hart to the Pelicans

That’s not that far off. If the Pelicans budge and give a tiny bit this thing can get done.

I don’t know about you guys but an extra first round pick or losing Hart/Zubac in the deal isn’t stopping me from getting Davis. Especially with the buyout market shaping up to be pretty decent this year.

right. i mean, slap some protection on that 2023 pick and this is pretty close to what was offered, right? the difference is that one pick, because you're right--the swaps aren't "real" picks. now, brooklyn got burned like that, but they weren't trading for in-prime superstars but guys well past their prime. and quite frankly, they've dug out of it pretty nicely and probably weren't going to do much in the interim anyway.

seems to me like discussion should still be open.

Goddam, does Mannix get Xmas and Bday cards from the Leperchauns, or does he shill for them for free? Embarrassing.

Yes. He did cry. And he didn't deserve to be a first ballot HoFer. I think Cris Carter was a really good receiver that benefited from Chris Berman always saying, "All he does is catch touchdowns." And to be fair he caught a lot. But there are 20+ positions on a football field. Being a first ballot HoFer is for the elite of the elite......like Tony Romo.

Reports earlier were that C Bags aren't dangling Tatum. If they're explicitly discussing him now, C Bags might be scared the Lakers close this soon. Little indirect logic, but makes sense.

If this is the deal, I offer to add a second round pick and make 2023 a swap pick as well, and we get to keep Hart. That is still a ridiculous package. I don't think they even need Hart with everything else they are getting. We'd have a starting 5 of McGee/AD/Lebron/Bullock/Rondo with Hart/Chandler/Melo off the bench. That team has a puncher's chance against the Warriors and is right there with Houston, C Bags, etc.

McGee/Chandler can’t cover 48 minutes at center. I’d still like to see us keep Zubac.

We could call about Gasol, but why bother? Popovich.

The issue right now is we never fully committed either way. We had Kobe's farewell tour spoil the first few years of our "youth movement." Then we sign Mozgov and Deng to horrible contracts that cripples our ability to acquire assets. Instead we could have traded for those same bad contracts but gotten picks/young players along with it. Afterwards we give up on the youth movement and go directly for cap space by letting go of Russell and Randle, and signing a player with a "win-now" mentality. Now at this point we have that plus a mixture of youth. We should either trade the youth for veteran role players to support LeBron or go back to rebuilding. This in between state won't do much. Boston, funnily enough, is in a similar boat right now.

how the saying go? You make a deal with the devil and you're going to pay one way or another? Well we bout to "pay up" in spades with all that media leak with AD offer (in order to appease his highness).....

I *cringe* agree with Skip Bayless for the most part. The players on this team KNOW Lebron and his agent are pulling the strings on this AD fiasco. That essentially tell them all that Lebron, the supposed leader of the team, wants all your butts shipped out. Professionalism can only take you so far. If you feel like management and the team leader don't have your back, it's tough. If the trade deadline passes and all these dudes are still on the roster, how does Lebron rally them? Short answer is he can't.

yep. if that counter offer actually occurred, the lakers may be forced to take it just not have 30 games of whatever that was last night.

I'm hoping we do have do games of what we had last night; I want us to finish as badly as possible. This is the result of NOT pursuing PG with every resource you had 2 years ago...

The only that can fix my bitterness is acquiring Anthony Davis, which I believe is getting less and less likely.

There was a legit reason then. Lakers had to see what they had and they had money to sign him outright. Plus, we do not know if Indiana would have traded him to the Lakers anyways.
