Not if that player added costs us our cap to get one of our FA targets.

Solomon Hill does f--- us over pretty bad though if we want to add a third max guy. E'Twuan Moore not as much since he actually produces a little.

Is having Anthony Davis actually on this roster (for at least 6 more years after he re-signs) not better than possibly having one of Kawhi, Kyrie, Durant, Kemba, etc? Cap space was amazing when we thought we had Paul George, and then when we didn’t it was just cap space, that turned into Rondo, McGee, Lance, and Beasley. Give me the known over the unknown I’m tired of cap space. It’s entirely possible we’d be able to dump Hill or Moore’s contract around the draft too and get that cap space back for a 3rd guy. Get Davis NOW, figure out the rest later.

Funny how if youve been following the Laker beat writers throughout this whole process, its been negotiations 101. Initial offer to establish connection, exchange dialogue, give them a number of options, they shop around and return with a counter.

Follow the Wojs and Windys and what you have is a mess and fabricated drama.

If you have to sacrifice cap room for AD, you do it. Worry about filling the roster up later. Plenty of buy out players will be at the Lakers disposal. Lebron made it to the Finals with scotch tape and JR Smiff. Give him AD and there is a legit shot of the Lakers winning the title THIS year.

    Pelicans players signed thru 2020:

    AD $27.0M
Jrue Holiday $26.2M signed through 2022.
    Solomon Hill $13.4M
    E'Twaun Moore $8.7M
Julius Randle $9.1M - player option

I'd take Randle without them asking.
Moore is productive and he could shoot, so I'd take him too.
Hill's contract is pretty bad, but we could try to get rid of it.

Holiday gives me reason to pause.
He's a 3rd tier star getting paid the max for another 3 years.

Can’t agree with this (and others who said it) enough. AD is the kind of player where, if you have an opportunity to get him, you just f#&king get him and you figure out the rest later. You don’t hesitate.

Boom! My feeling exactly too! AD is a franchise cornerstone. He's a perfect fit alongside Lebron, more so even than other top tier guys like Kawhi and KD who play the same position as Lebron. Give up the farm, hopefully keep one young of our 5 young guys, do it now. It's a great opportunity. Glad to see Tania and Broderick's article going to back to the fact that we gave NO five different options, not the garbage that WOJ is spewing. Seriously, F that guy.

I think that was THE year, or one of a couple years where franchises lost their damn minds and handed out insane contracts to anyone who would take them. Same year as Hill got paid

    Bazemore - 4 years 70.5 mil
    Lin - 3 years 36 mil
    Batum - 5 years 120 mil
Harrison Barnes 4 years 94 mil
    Drummond - 5 years 130 mil
    Ryan Anderson - 4 years 80 mil
    Austin Rivers - 3 years 35 mil
    Jamal Crawford - 3 years 42 mil
Deng, Mozgov - don’t want to say it
    Conley - 5 years 153 mil
    Parsons - 4 years 94 mil
    Whiteside 4 years 98 mil
    Miles Plumlee - 4 years 52 mil
    Dellavedova - 4 years 38 mil
    Noah - 4 years 72 mil
    Courtney Lee - 4 years 50 mil
    Biyombo - 4 years 72 mil
Jared Dudley 2 years 30 mil
    Crabbe - 4 years 75 mil
    Evan Turner - 4 years 70 mil
    Meyer Lemons - 4 years 41 mil
    DeRozan - 5 years 145 mil
    Mahinmi - 4 years 64 mil

See, GMs lost their damn minds and are still paying for it. I remember not being able to even fathom the deals handed to players like Crabbe and Solomon Hill especially.

Woj is clearly up the Pels & Cbags behinds, so the bad contract the Pels choose to push on us won't be Jrue (and that's unfortunate)...

So Hill is the guy that has the worst contract and lets say it's him that gets pushed on us which enables us to keep one of our kiddies...for this example it's BI since reportedly the Pels like Zo...the package to match AD/Hill salary would be KCP (trade kicker activated), Zo, Kuz, Zu, Beas, Lance (of course Zu and Hart could be switched in for Beas or Lance)

    Bron: 37.4
    AD 27.1
    Hill 12.8
    DeadDeng: 5
    BI: 7.3
    Moe: 2.1
    Zu: 1.9
    Hart: 1.9
    Bonga: 1.4
    Svi: 1.4
    Incomplete roster charge: 2.7
= 101m in team salary (8m in capspace)

A free agent can threaten to leave in free agency and leave his team with nothing or they can leverage their teams to take on a Lakers package featured by BI in a S&t.

Kawhi's 32.7m max can be partially taken into our 8m of cap space...and we'd only need to send out 19.7m in salary to get Kawhi's max then.

BI/Hill's expiring contract can get us Kawhi...we can sweeten the lit for Toronto by adding Hart and some of our remaining kiddies.

The point is, it's still possible to get a max player this summer even if we take on one of the Pels bad contracts, cause all their bad contacts are expiring salaries next year. It's going to need alot of cooperation, but I'm sure some teams would be thrilled in taking on BI as a consolation prize for their prized free agent leaving.

We did. 5 trade scenarios where averyone but Bron is available. What else can we do? When NO decides to keep AD or trade him elsewhere, look out for the media spinning it as "our fault". We can only do/offer so much...

If we have to take on a bad contract to get Davis you do it, even if it eats into your 3rd max contact slot.

In theory, I think I’d rather not get a 3rd star and fill the roster with garbage ring chasers. I think LeBron and AD are enough stars for a championship if we just pay to surround them with excellent role players. Don’t roll the dice with ring chasers that might not be the perfect fit.

this. tired of cap space. get the bird in your freaking hand. sort the rest out later. as vash said, none of the contract are even that bad. and given that most FAs are likely staying put or looking elsewhere, i'd rather not have 38 million to spend on more beasleys and stephensons. you can get all the beasleys and stephensons you want for half that cost anyway.

get AD, and use whatever's left to claim the FAs that slip through the cracks and end up taking way less than expected (happens every year). as long as you don't mozdeng, you're fine--even with deals longer than a year.
