Great game but honestly who cares? Its the same story with Lonzo.

Nobody cares about a great game every 10 games...you need to be consistently good to make a difference.

Why does it take Luke criticism for him to "respond"? Where is the intrinsic competitive spirit?

there was still overdribbling and bad midrange attempts, but there was a lot more decisiveness and attempts at the rim. i'll take it.

A lot of easy baskets when he just caught and go. I hope he watches film from the game and notices it. Its hard for the defender especially with his length.

There are a few exceptional players who got it at a very young age. Magic got it from year one. LeBron got it from year one. Others simply take time to get it as they mature. DAR seems to be getting it now with Brooklyn. Randle seems to be getting it now with NOLA. I wanted BI to fully get it this year but he may take one or two more years before he gets there. In the meantime games like this one are encouraging.

I'm just not sure. Russell and Randle were at least aggressive most of the time (especially Randle). Ingram seemingly shuts down. I think it's why Kuzma gets more of a pass despite not being that statistically different than Ingram. Their shooting percentages are almost identical from inside and outside the arc. Ingram averages only 1.5 points less. Kuzma gets the benefit of the doubt because you know he's going to do whatever he can. Ingram...we don't know if he's leaving points on the floor from night to night. Aggression is difficult to teach or learn. Most players seem to be born with it.

as difficult of a question to answer w/o bias/homerism, would any one trade Ingram for better fitting but less potential/talent for say like a Robert Covington?

Not for a player like that. Even though he may not fit well here, other teams may think they can make him fit better in their system. One of the most valuable aspects of Ingram is his potential. We have to get a player that is better than Ingram is right now for us to get proper value since his potential is one of his major selling points. A player like Covington is pretty much maxed out and may not be better than Ingram is right now. And I'm not sure Covington even makes us better.

i'm not sure i disagree, but i could see the argument that ingram may not ever be as good as covington, and he's locked into a reasonable contract for his prime years.

the fact that it's reasonable discussion is pretty sad, though.

I realize its a fair value in terms of fit but reading on realgm, you'd think Covington is the difference between us contending and just playoff fodders. I know fit makes big difference but not to the pt of swapping a 21yr old for a 28yr old.

right. i'd say no to such a deal, but i'm not sure minny would be in a hurry to attach a 1st or something.

well the non laker fans typical response is that ingram isnt a good fit n his value will decrease playing next to james. fair assessment but they dont realize how itd look to trade a #2 pick for a role player regardless of how great a role he plays....its not like ingram is a complete bust

Exactly. The dude is averaging 16 ppg as the third option. That's not bad. He's also one of our best 3 perimeter defenders. I really have a tough time judging Ingram. He's the #2 pick. That number, fair or not, factors into our opinion of him. And honestly, from looking at this board, I think it clouds our judgment of him in a way where it makes some think he's better than he is, and other think he's worse than he is. Kuzma on the other hand is good, but not much better than Ingram. With Ingram's defensive ability, you could make the argument that overall Ingram might be better. But at pick #27, he's like finding a 100 dollar bill under the couch cushion. He'd have to severely regress. Look how bad Clarkson actually is, yet because he was a second round pick, we always overrated him.

In the end we had the #2 pick two different seasons where a franchise changer was available at #1 (KAT/Simmons). The Ball draft looks like a mess all over to be honest.

^ Good points but I'm not sure Simmons is a franchise changer. He can't make a jump shot to save his life. His non-shooting is MUCH worse than Lonzo, or maybe even Fultz. In the playoffs he was so bad he couldn't even stay on the floor. I'll take Brandon over him.

It was only a matter of time before Brandon found his groove. His ball handling was impressive and his passing was great. I expect him to keep improving as a scorer and play maker until Lebron comes back.

I feel like Randle is the case of people getting hyped over his amazing offensive numbers. His defense has regressed a lot and he's a big part why the Pelicans have been very mediocre defensively (26th in the league in terms of defensive rating).

Sounds like you have seen a number of his games this year. What's his defense like these days? Last year it was impressive that he had the speed to switch and stay with guards and also the strength to body up bigs. But equally made me crazy because he was too lazy or stupid to put his f****** hands up while staring at his opponent. I mean how hard is it to figure out that your hands shouldn't be down on defense, and how hard is it to keep them up? Julius tried to Jedi mind trick them into thinking they better not shoot from that position in directly in front of him waaaay too much during his years with the Lakers.
