I’m not really impressed... Lol, because this is what I’ve always known he can do. When he has had bad games I am more surprised. With Zo it just seems to be all confidence. He needs to learn how to still play good when his shot isn’t falling though. I’m impressed with his potential. Future All Star/Superstar
So young. New kid. Psycho dad. Estranged girlfriend. "Trapped". No doubt bad shoe sales. Seems to me he is wearing it. His body language flat out sucks during many games. I think he'll grow out of it, but when you see flashes of brilliance, it's hard not to want to see it every game.
We know he can do this, we just want consistency. Bring it every game not just every 3-4 games. Not expecting a near triple double every time but just not be invisible out there.
I’m not sure this isn’t completely true. Not a lot of PGs, or guards in general, are great defenders. The current rules make it very hard for them to be, more of the DPOY type players are forwards and bigs like Kawhi, Green, Gobert, Davis, etc. Defense isn’t celebrated as offense though so Lonzo doesn’t get celebrated like he probably should for his abilities. Instead he’s mostly knocked for his biggest weaknesses which are of course shooting and aggressiveness. He balances that out with defense and playmaking, but yeah, he still needs to stay aggressive on the offensive end to make a real overall impact. Still, the defense is a real plus considering when he was drafted I think most of us here thought he was mediocre at best at it.
He's not a 1-on-1 bulldog--particularly in space against ballhandlers, but his team defense and awareness is great. He also defends wings very well in isolation, which is great for the way the game is currently played. He's up there as a defender already. I still like mike Conley, Kyle Lowry, and jrue holiday ahead of him, but each is different in strengths. Spurs' young dude is for real, too.
Lonzo also almost never bites on pump/shot fakes. You don’t see him giving guys free throws that try to play “crafty” like that like Paul (who likes to draw fouls like this AND use this as a give and go tool), Curry, Murray, Dragic, and to a lesser extent maybe Lillard, Irving and a couple others, as well as some shooting guards he gets switched on. Like in the Miami game he absolutely would not bite on Wade’s shot fakes and lean ins trying to draw fouls, he stays totally grounded, very disciplined.
He is so inconsistent at everything. Fox was running circles around him. Glad Luke benched him knowing Lonzo didn't have it tonight
There is no question that Fox is the better player and prospect. He has come a long way in his 14 months in the NBA. I wouldn't have taken him ahead of Lonzo, in hindsight a mistake. The question with Fox is how he can coexist with another superstar or 2. He is a relatively high usage player and his shooting isn't good (not that Lonzo's is because Fox's a better shooter but that doesn't mean much) so I still have some doubts about his effectiveness next to other great players. With that said the Lakers mostly tried to defend Fox with Hart and KCP. He didn't match up with Lonzo too often simply because Lonzo isn't particularly good at on-ball defense in iso plays. His strength is rather team defense and awareness of passing lanes etc. But we had no answer for Fox, too quick for our players and he plays with enough patience which is a rarity with his speed at his age. The opposite of WCS, who was horrible for them offensively I thought even though going 5 of 10. Lonzo was mostly OK I thought, aggressive at times but not constantly. Also looks like a r***** at the FT line... It's just cruel when you get paid millions and your ft looks like Lonzo's.. Sorry, it's a fact.
as i just posted in the wmc: ball was letting fox get to his strong hand easily. usually, he's a smarter defender than that. it's like he got the scouting report backwards or something. also, how is it that the tougher the layup attempt, the more likely he is to convert it? yips.
This jumping back and forth on lonzo is getting borderline ridicules. He is going to play a huge role in our success for the next decade. He is already good and his upside is incredibly high.
