Rondo has a ring to his name and the "I don't give a f***" demeanor that Zo isn't even in the ball park of having yet.

But Zo did put on weight, is apparently built like a brick wall now and I'd like to see Beverley try that s*** again this year. But till Zo starts walking around with that swagger, Rondo has that in spades.

But of course, we're talking about the here and now and you said Zo is the better talent. All factors and intangibles considered:

    Zo (per36): 10.7pts, 7.6asts, 7.3rbs, 1.8stls, 0.9blks, 36%fg, 30.5%3fg, 45.1%ft, 2.8tovs

    Rajon (per36): 11.3pts, 11.3asts, 5.6rbs, 1.5stls, 0.2blks, 46.8%fg, 33.3%3fg, 54.3%ft, 3.2tovs

I beg to differ on who the better talent is now.

That being said... bringing in a talent like Rajon to challenge and tutor Zo only helps Zo realize more of his potential. And of course that only helps us!

I would say that Rondo is a better starting PG today than Lonzo, and I don't think that's even close to debatable.

Curious why you feel that way. Rondo has championship experience, has led the league in Assists, has improved his shooting, knows how to control the game, and even Lonzo said he's the smartest basketball mind he's been around.

If Rondo started, it wouldn't bother me a bit. If they split time, it wouldn't bother me. If Lonzo plays lion share of the minutes, IMHO, it's because Luke wants to develop Ball for the future, but Rondo starting full time wins us more games this year.

What I said is that Lonzo is a more talented player. He's bigger, faster, more athletic, more explosive. He can do more things than Rondo can.

Rondo is more skilled because he's more focused which makes him a good fit to start while Lonzo heals up, but once Lonzo is healthy I think it'll be fairly clear that he's the better starting option for the team. Even with the limited shooting Lonzo showed, it's not like Rondo is a better shooter and given Lonzo's ability to switch effectively from about 1-3 defensively and impact the game on that end plus the glass, Lonzo is just a more talented player.

In my opinion you develop skills over time, you're born with talent. Lonzo needs some time to develop the same skills that Rondo possesses, but Rondo will never have the talent that Lonzo has.

What I'm seeing even in those numbers is a guy in Lonzo that affects the game at more levels than Rondo does. Lonzo rebounds better, gets in passing lanes better, blocks more shots. Lonzo is bigger, longer, more explosive and more athletic. It's not a shot at Rondo to say he's not as talented as Lonzo, if anything it's a compliment given that Rondo is a better player right now at times due to his consistency.

But Rondo cannot affect the game in as many ways at as high a level as Lonzo can when Lonzo is healthy and playing at his best. We're talking about a 19 year old comparing him to a 30 year old and those numbers don't exactly blow Lonzo away. Rondo is a terrific player and could start on more than a couple teams, but he's best as a strong bench guard contributor that takes the reins from Lonzo when Lonzo shows the inconsistency of youth.

Well, at the very least we have two very good point guards. I agree with Big Game that Rondo is still an elite player. Rondo and Ball are both point guards in the mold I like. Whichever ends up starting we are in good shape. It is also nice to bring a starting level point guard in off the bench. Stacked team.

I'm with therealdeal. There's no question to me that Lonzo is a more talented player than Rondo. There's a reason Zo was the number 2 pick and Rondo was picked in the 20s. It's the greater potential that he showed. That said, Rondo's had a very strong career and he's a serious player. I'm thankful that we got him even if I hated him as a C bag. Now he's our guy and I am quite happy about it. He'll help Zo improve his game dramatically and much quicker than he would have on his own. What a great pick up by the FO.

I love hearing Rondo talk about the game and the stories he has with our young core. I never thought this would ever come out my mouth for a C-bag.

I think your use of the word talent is incorrect. I think it’s more fair to say Lonzo has more physical attributes than Rondo in terms of size and athleticism.

It would be like saying one concert pianist is more talented than the other because he has bigger hands.

I think Rondo is the better overall basketball player right now for this season. In 2-3 years Lonzo can very well be the better basketball player... but for now I think that’s Rondo.

Rondo’s better at creating in half court sets, shooting, and it’s hard to predict be more durable too. Rondo actually is a good rebounding guard but Lonzo might be the second best rebounding guard in the league already (best would be Westbrook).

In an athletic context, that's how I use the term "talent". You're born with talents. You work for your skills. Rondo is far more skilled than Lonzo. He's not more talented.

Who would you say is the better overall basketball player today?

I think that matters more than your definition of talent. By that definition, Dwight Howard was more talented than Tim Duncan in their primes.
