Everyone was happy with this signing, that’s the crazy thing. Like %99 of the posts in the first few pages are positive, everyone thought his shooting and veteran leadership were exactly what we needed. He fooled us all, all the way up to Mitch and Jim. I predict his mission now will to get on a team and try to go all out whenever he gets to play us. When/if that that time comes I hope we put LeBron on him and make him look silly.

Most of the opinions by the media thought it was a positive signing as well. Deng had productive seasons in Miami prior to. The only nit was that the contract was too long at four years. Agree that how Deng regressed so rapidly was unexpected.

all team fans tend to over-rate their free agent signings

We seem to only look at the positive side of things, but don't always factor in reality, age of the athlete, accumulative mileage, character issues. It's like once they sign here, we can only focus on the uber positive stuff on the high side of their potential.

My hope is we don't feel the same way about any other free agents we recently signed in another 4 years. No one deserves to get Deng'd like that.

If I can recall, the reactions was more in line that Deng would be productive at least but nothing exaggerated or unreasonable. Chip in 15 points, with solid play on both of sides of the ball, be a leader and mentor. Going what we got, it was an over-rating even if the expectations I felt were average or modest. I thought Deng would be serviceable for two years...that was wrong.

In the end, we got out of his contract with our options intact.

Next summer, if we don't get KD, we'll look back at the cutting of Luol Deng and say that the Lakers basically traded 30 million of dead money for Jimmy Butler.

Well if he can really play still I guess we will find out. He has all the incentive he should need plus having given up a good chunk of change to do it. And if he looks in shape to be reasonably effective off the bench wherever .... why did he not look like that by the mid point at the very least of his first season. He never has looked anything but soft in his muscle tone.

If it's for any more than the minimum, the Lakers get some of their bill taken off on that buy out.

It didn’t work for him in the East like 5 years ago, but sure, it’s gonna work in today’s West. Brilliant. At least we’ll have to see Deng’s big mouth put up or shut up, Thibs will run his old, fat behind into the ground.
