31.3m left on his deal with 18m left on this year would put him at 13.3m for next year.

Stretch that amount and we're looking at about 4.4m in dead money for '19/20 thru '21/22.

Also the 18m he makes this year would have a set-off amount of about 1m if he signs a vet min deal with another team (2.4m). So if dude is not interested in double-dipping (about 20m), we would only pay him 17m of the 18m owed to him via a set-off.

Really happy that we did not have to give away any of our young guns to rid ourselves of Deng. That's a big win.

This is great news. Deng gets a chance to sign somewhere else and make some $$. We have more money to spend and we did not have to get rid of any of our young guys. Everybody wins!

Best part is no draft picks lost, no young talent lost. We have enough cheap very talented youth to make up the lost of other contracts next year like kcp, Lance and Beasley. I would only like to keep Rondo and a center (McGee) to go with Kawhi/Klay/KD/Butler etc. Exciting move by the fo and goodbye to everything Mitch and Jim related! Hello future

Clearly, Deng was untradeable. Sucks we will have some dead money on the books, but it doesn’t look like it’s much. This also allowed us to keep ALL trade assets, being draft picks and young players, for a Kawhi trade at the deadline should he make it clear to the Raptors he’s not staying and they don’t want to lose him for nothing. But main thing, Deng is gone, the horrible contracts of the Mitch/Jim era are all gone now, the Lakers future is bright now.

We could actually bring Leonard in at the deadline for a run at the ring this year if he makes it clear he's not staying after the season and will not under any circumstance re-sign with any other club than the Lakers. All on him. Then we don't get hurt too bad with what we have to give up if other teams believe him. Or not. Then f*** him too. We want stars and talented players who want to be Lakers.

    Which old Deng,
    The fossil Deng.
Ding dong the fossil Deng is dead.
    Oh yeah, happy day
    Wake up you sleepy head
    Rub you eyes
    Get out of that bed
You can finally get a glazed doughnut before Deng orders them all
Wake up, the wicked old Deng is dead.
He’s gone where the fat guys go to eat so Hostess ho ho hos
and after that no ones knows
    Let’s open up and sign
    And ring those bells out
    Sing the news out
Ding dong the merry oh, sing it high and sing it low
Let them know the old a** Deng is gone.

Click those ruby slippers together 3 times Deng. I don’t where you say you want to go. As long as it’s no
    longer the Lakers.

that tweet from the other day suggested he'd sign with houston. will annoy me if he gets in shape and plays backup pf effectively for them.

    REALLY annoy me.

    What odd timing for this.

I assume the team asked Deng to give back some in a buyout and he just now relented

But, he did take the money at the expense of his career. He still has two years before he can collect social security. :)

    He definitely needed the money.
