Our offer was said to be insulting and very likely included Deng to make the money work. It's fine. That was our "We'll wait" message to SA.

Toronto is a good outcome for us as far as Kawhi destinations. So Cal boy, he's not gonna like it. Sorry to Canadians but I'm a So Cal guy born and raised in San Diego and Riverside areas just like Kawhi (LA these days). I have a Canadian wife and have spent a lot of time up there. In Toronto it starts getting cold about when the NBA season starts and is still cool when it ends. They won't get by the C Bags in the East imo and Lebron swept the Raptors a few months ago I don't think Kawhi is stoked to be with them. Kawhi will do what he said he would and his camp is sending that exact message still. If Pop couldn't convince him, Masai Ujiri sure isn't.

This wasn't that bad on the Raptors part depending on the package. They probably figure they got a 20% shot at convincing Kawhi or a 80% chance of a salary dump.

Toronto has little to lose ( even if adding 2 young players in the trade would be bad)....

Players change their mind and Kawhi isn't going to sit for a whole another year, I wouldn't be so sure about him leaving next summer .

On the positive side , Lakers could see if he's still the same player he was before and we , as fans, don't mind/care about the Raptors at all

This is absolutely perfect for us. I can see both players leaving next summer actually.

If Kawhi ends up staying in Toronto to play with Kyle Lowry and 50 year old Serge Ibaka by all means do your thing....

    But...

    That....

    Would....

    Be....

    Stupid.

    Kawhi ain’t stupid.

I’m enjoying this so much. Not sure if I’m enjoying it more or the same as the Blake Griffin trade, but the franchise betrayal is excellent. We continue to look classy, others teams continue to look cutthroat.

    Some quick thoughts.

    1. Nobody knows if his injury was actually tendinopathy. There were many who believed (including Kawhi) that it was Myositis Ossificans which is a lot more serious. Most teams didn't know for sure and wouldn't know until after a trade is already completed. You can pass a physical with a chronic injury too, the physical is supposed to only catch something imminent or existing. You might be able to pass a physical with Myositis Ossificans (I don't know, but maybe).

    2. Of the possible destinations, I think this is our best bet. If he wanted to go home for any single reason, this is the opposite of that. Weather is the opposite. Market (for the US) is the opposite. Location is the opposite. Country is wrong. Definitely the team, in terms of NBA impact, is the opposite.

    3. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he stayed there next summer. If he leaves, he leaves, but I'd honestly not be surprised at all if he took the money and it became another Paul George situation. I also wouldn't be surprised if they flipped him to us at the deadline for some package.

This is Dwight Howard 2.0 over Paul George 2.0 IMO.

I hope so, but after George I'm definitely not counting any chickens either.

It's going to be really fun to watch how this works out over the next few months.

Good luck to Kawhi. He better get used to the cold quick cuz it's absolutely brutal up here in the winter months.

Nothing against Toronto, it's a world class city, but I feel this is a different scenario than PG. Aging Lowry + Ibaka to convince him to stay, Raptor management loyalty has shown it doesn't exist.

    Then there's this:

which I don't think PG and his agent put out there.

This deal also looks more like a salary dump for the Raptors. Masai just so happens he got a great player on an expiring contract. If they're not doing so well this season, I can see them blowing it up by the trade deadline.

On the Spurs side, good job on RC Buford for managing to more than salvage this whole Kawhi mess. Gets an All-Star, a good promising center in Poeltl and a pick!

I can't remember, but I think at this stage already last year there were indications that George would give [edit] Oklahoma a shot. Looks like Kawhi is already going a different route.

Anyone else worried that the Clippers night sneak in at the trade deadline to acquire Kawhi?

I can actually see Toronto accepting a package of Tobias Harris + Shai Gilgeleous-Alexander (a young *canadian* point guard where there were reports Toronto was trying to trade into the draft to get him). A package like that would be a easy way for Toronto to cut their losses at the deadline and gain some assets in return.

The clippers would definitely do that with Jerry West at the helm, he would have Kawhi’s bird rights to offer him a bigger contract than anyone else in 2019.... while Kawhi gets his wish of being in LA. The Clippers are also set to have over 70 million in cap space next summer. They can absolutely recruit other free agents if they already have Kawhi.....

Lmao. Derozan had the chance to come to LA, now he just got stabbed in the back and sent to the Spurs for being “loyal.”

I highly doubt Kawhi is going to stay in Toronto, let alone want to play there for the season. What a terrible move by them.

See, this is why our Franchise is one of, if not, the best. We treat our players right, granted you (and your agent) do the same.

Watch the odds of Kawhi signing with us next year pop off.

So we can move this to NBA Discussion?

Looks like our team is set unless Toronto flips him for more young assets.

Definitely something to watch out for, especially if the Raptors go full-rebuild route. I don't think Clipps can trade their 1st rounder for next year though.

If Kawhi prefers the Clippers over the Lakers than that says it all right there.

Same story with PG, if you can’t see the obvious best choice in playing with one of the best players in the league, with some of the best young talent, on the best franchise, then I really have to question his motivation.

Eh. I still think this is a Laker story for now. Kawhi still wants to be here according to reports.

    I think it should stay.
