Focus on creatively retaining Randle in a way that keeps a max slot next year. Then call it a summer and walk away from the table with San Antonio.

Remember when Bron first came back to the Cavs....Griff made midseason trades for JR and Shump during season 1 of that reunion.

I'm slowly getting convinced that we will bring in Boogie now and trade for Kawhi midseason with some of our kiddies, some future picks and some expiring deals. At that point, SA has to absolutely take our offer. If not then we got the space next summer and hopefully Boogie and Kawhi can split amongst themselves or we can use Deng's expiring to bring in a S&T Kawhi.

We have options fam and that's the great thing about all of this. But I'm suspecting Kawhi is going to come later now. I hope I'm wrong. And I hope one of the kiddies ain't BI.

If we do trade for him now though, then it looks like we could do something like BI and S&T Brook/IT.

Well since GSW is the evil empire now, and technically we are one of the more well equipped teams to take them down. Why not help us out a little Spurs, you know, the enemy of my enemy and all that.

Well, Lakers now are actually better off waiting for Kawhi. I just hope he doesnt do a PG. Lakers will need everyone now after this coming year.

    agreed

see how it plays out with cousins and GS this season. more than likely, he regains his form, gets a ring, and is ready to sign that big contract elsewhere next year

then go out and get kawhi

If we trade for Kawhi this summer, we can have space for another max (i think) next summer to get a guy like klay or KD out of the warriors or butler
    and re-sign kawhi as well.

If we dont trade for kawhi, we only have space for 1 MAX, and kawhi is not guarantee to come, could pull a PG if he is traded to Philly or C's

But I would only trade if the price right.
    Maybe like Ingram + Hart + Deng + 2 1st picks

I really dont see ingram to be a star anytime soon probably will take (3-4 years) which is outside the Lebron timeline

    Lineup This Summer

    Zo
    KCP
    Kawhi
    Lebron
    Center

    Lineup Next Summer

    Zo
    Klay
    Kawhi
    Lebron
    Center

    Thoughts?

no we wont...i saw somewhere we'd have 40mill in space if we dump deng for nothing, if deng was dumped n we got leonard, he would still have a 20mill cap hold or so...

This isn't true. The only way we have enough for another max is if we completely clear the deck of EVERYONE but Ball, Lebron and Kawhi. Those 3 alone would be 75 million. 9 cap holds bring us to 85 or so. The only way it works is if we get Klay and ONLY Klay because that move also weakens the Warriors.

We will not have space for a max next summer if we trade for Kawhi. The cap will be about 109 mil

LBJ + Kawhi + Klay/Butler = 100mil + Deng 118 mil or stretch Deng next summer and it's about 105 mil (including Mo's guaranteed 2 mil) we have team options on everyone or their expired but we'd have to renounce just about all of our youth(maybe keep Kuz or Hart) so then we would have only vet mins and exceptions for everybody else

Lakers need one more max player next year. Then the lakers will have to start prepping to pay Brandon Ingram, Kuzma and maybe Ball the next few years when they become stars.

Its possible that Kawhi decides to Opt-in in his final year worth 21 million I think
Since he is going to reject the supermax I think there is a possibility he takes a paycut

What if he stays in SAS or is traded elsewhere before next summer. We'd have to do an S&T with whatever team to take advantage of the last year opt in and that would be so unlikely for a host of reasons. Unlikely he'd do that and cripple us and I don't think the other team would take Deng. He'd need to opt out so he could sign a fresh new deal here.

We'd be able to sign Kawhi or some other max, I just don't know how a 3rd max would be possible without renouncing everyone including all the kids. Most likely it would be a combo of trading some youth and a pick to offload Deng for expiring and just renouncing the rest. Then you have Bron, Kawhi, Klay/Butler whomever and maybe enough to retain one of either Zo or Ingram (if they are still around after trying to dump Deng). or we could possibly retain Kuz and Hart if we managed to retain them after the Deng jettison). Then exceptions and vet mins to fill out the rest. It's doable without Kawhi opting in which I doubt he would. He is rejecting the super max because only SAS can offer it and he doesn't want to be there. If he was were he wanted to be and they had the means to pay him max I'm sure he'd want to be paid.

True, at the end of the day I trust whatever Maginka does. I just really hope that if we wait for Kawhi for a year and he is traded to Philly, he doesnt pull a PG and stay

As it's been noted, Philly and Boston know Kawhi is not a creampuff like PG and know that Kawhi is a dude that holds a grudge. He is showing all of that to be true right now. There is no doubt these teams have been contacted by his reps and told to forget about Kawhi resigning. Their fear to offer anything above scraps proves that. The situation is reversed for SAS compared to how it usually goes. The longer they wait, the less leverage they have. They saw us make all 1 year deals to be ready for next summer so there is no leverage over us. By doing that we're letting them know we believe Kawhi will wait. We made them a big offer for him but then signed LBJ so we immediately rescinded that offer. The leverage flipped, no pressure to sign Kawhi to attract LBJ anymore. San Antonio is one nervous group currently.
