He can play a little; but he adds a grittiness, a toughness, a don't back down attitude to not any 1 player in the league. Good deal.
Stephenson is probably going to annoy us a good amount, but I personally love the move. Gotta have players like him who won't back down from the moment/players.
Craziest July 1st I can remember as a Lakers fan. In past years we waited like a week to start filling out the roster. So far we signed one rookie, and verbally agreed with 4 players. On day one. And not a Mosgov or Deng in the bunch.
I like this move. He is versatile. Can play off the bench at 1, 2 or 3 spot. He moves the ball. He doesn’t demand touches. He’s a tough guy that you can go to war with.
I don’t see a spot/role for Melo on this this team with LeBron, Ingram, Kuz and even some others playing his position, but the idea is funny. I might not be opposed for the minimum.
Don't want Melo for any price. He's a Jonah. Wouldn't take the vet min anyways. Still delusional about his game. edit: ok just read there may be a buy out in which case he probably would take a vet min. Eh, I'm just tired of this dude, off the bench only.
I've been a closet fan. He's like a bench heat-check guy, but he contributes in multiple aspects of the game rather than just shooting. When he's cold we'll be yelling at the screen. With all that said I'm excited to have him on this squad... I replied to this thread before the LeBron one haha.
This might look strange at first, but you need veteran presence, grit, toughness, defense. He provides that. He can give us, what... 10/5/2, something like that? Intimidate opposing guards? Play some mean D with guys like Zo/Hart or Ingram? Sure, no problem. Wish it was for less $$, but any time I hear "one year contract" I click "like".
These intensity guys make everyone play harder not only in games but also practice. Coaches actually love these guys. Can't complain about anything so far.
