Unfortunately for the Spurs, they are dealing with Magic and Rob here. Also, if Bron is truly sending that message - "don't give up that much, I'm here, I'll help bring people to LA, keep some young guys" - he's the man.

Exactly. If the deadline pasted tonight without choosing to opt in or out it would have opted him out of the deal. I just don't think this is considered early. Deciding to opt out now compared to tonight when the deadline would pass.

    Am I missing something?

basically we are recruiting free agents that are duplicates of our young talent

so, as much as I want to see BI and Kuzma develop, it's not likely these guys all remain, including Randle, if we somehow go get Kawhi, PG, and LLLLLL

There is too much duplication. But pretty much 9 times out of 10, you go with a guy who is a proven star over someone that "Might" become one. That's just about as low risk as it gets.

Doesn't mean Laker fans will like it. LLLLLL is really the biggest risk due to age and mileage, so I do hope we keep someone around that can help keep his minutes to 30 or less to prolong his productivity and actually encourage him to still play some D.

Jus sayin' (If we don't have any choice in accepting his coming)

Cyberx... so you have given your crystal ball a pet name? What does “cyberx” tell you about Bron to Houston?

If he had waited, it's possible the Lakers make a deal for Kawhi today that involves a lot of the young players in a mad effort to get Kawhi/LeBron. By announcing it now they avoid that scenario probably.

This also puts Houston almost entirely out of the mix, they can start moving on to other plans (I have a feeling they'll target Carmelo for some reason).

This allows Cleveland to start getting ready today instead of tomorrow.

It's still letting teams know earlier than he had to which is significant even if we don't know why yet.

At this point, with our leverage, and based on some reports that we haven't even included BI in trade talks, it seems a package of something like Julius (S&T) + any one or combo of Zubac/Wagner/Bonga/Mihkailhiuk + the 19 1st is what we've been throwing out there.

That may be the best they will get now.

As for Dung, maybe we find a team willing to trade a player they're looking to move, but someone we can stretch at a lower cap hit than it would be for Deng. For example, what if we traded for Chicago's Asik at $10.5M/year. What would that look like stretched? And would we be able to afford Lebron AND PG after acquiring Kawhi?

Keep Ingram out your mouth here. I am giving you my boys Randle and Zubac and WhiteyMo for sacrifice on the alter of your impatience.

To be fair, I don’t think he or anyone saw this GS jugglerknot coming. When he left the Heat for the Cavs, the Thunder and Spurs were still the obvious threat, and he’d beaten both.

I don't care this is the West.

Spurs barely and the Thunder when they were pups. I could see 4 year 0 rings and a whole lot bendover happenning.
