@Helljumper khmrp succinctly answered it...but you know my essay having a** wants to add a few footnotes.

Since we have cap space, trade rules are more lax than a team that is cap strapped. So for the Spurs they have to take back at most 125% + 100k of the salary they send out. So they can take back at most 25.2m of Kawhi's 20.1m they send out. So they would have to attach a guy like Brandon Paul who has a vet min non-guaranteed contract to make the trade work if we sent out a maxed Jules @25.4m for example.

But lets use your scenario of attaching BI (first of all, how dare you?) and Zu (btw his contract becomes fully guaranteed on 6/30) to Jules. Those dudes make about 7m together so Jules contract would have to be no more than 18m for that aggrated trade package to be legal on SA's part. Again we have cap space, so we can take on as much money as our cap space allows.

    Kawhi (20.1)
    Deng stretch (7.4)
    Zo (7.5)
    Kuz (1.7)
    Hart (1.7)
    Moe (1.7)
= about 40m (so about 61m in capspace)

Still not enough room to max out Bron and George. They would each have to take about a 2.5m haircut.

Disclaimer: Also there is something called an incomplete roster charge that will trivially eat into available cap space and get recalculated as we fill out the roster. So all the available cap space talk are approximations and could be less, which is why for the most part I like to round off accordingly.

Damn most of y'all fall In love quick...Hart, Kuz and Zo been here for all of a year...but I guess I understand.

With the reports that LA is trying to acquire future 1sts by having salary dumped on us...im thinking that this is LA's way of sparing a grand exodus of our youth in a Kawhi deal. So breath easy fam...

For example: Let's say we take on Noah from NY along with some of their future 1sts. Then flip that s*** along with a S&t Jules, Moe, Bonga and Zu for Kawhi.

    Noah (18)
    Deng (18)
    Kawhi (20)
    Zo, BI, Hart, Kuz (16)
    = 72m (29m in cap)

Stretch Deng and you have the max for Bron.

Instead of pairing OKC d*** rydin PG (allegedly) and Bron with the kids, you pair Kawhi and Bron with the kids instead...what's not to love?

Plus watching Bron subtweet about Noah relentlessly...just lovely!

    Exactly.

I'm sorry, but why are we selling the farm again?

Stein must be out of his freakin mind. Im not trading 75% of our youth for a disgruntled, still injured star. GTFO with this BS. I bet both Magic and Rob can do better than this. If not... no deal, FU Spurs. At this moment, my best offer would be Jules, Hart, Zu or Bryant and some future picks.

It’s almost Comic Sansical how bad ESPN is hating how much we have going for us that they’ve literally written about every possible scenario and in a negative way towards us. How PG is undecided and most likely resigning. Or some “clues” from the NBA Finals alluding to Lebron staying. Or us having to sell our entire farm just to get Kawhi.

It’s all garbage. It’s all clickbait. Like I said, ESPN thrives off of us. They live and breathe hating our existence.

It’s okay though, when all the smoke clears, we’ll know the truth...

If healthy, Kawhi is one of the best basketball players on the planet, and he is not even in his prime. We have to make a move. However, we can give them Jules and one young player, although I will be very sorry to see them go, and I know am not alone. To sweeten the deal, it's only fair to include some first round picks. I get it. But this talk of "Lonzo, Kuzma, Ingram and 512 first round picks" has to stop. There is no way we're giving up that much youth for a player who is great - but is coming off injury and hasn't played much last season. Jules S&T, 1 young player, picks, get it done. Spurs are not getting a better offer than that. They get two promising players with tons of room to still develop, and we know they can draft.

I am pretty sure Magic&Rob will know how to handle this. But yes - I do want Kawhi, I'd be crazy to say otherwise.

As I said in the other thread...

I would instantly ship 2 youngsters out for Leonard. But that to me only makes sense if we end up with LeBron, Kawhi and PG.

Otherwise if we just end up with 2...I certainly prefer George and LeBron because I think getting George for free is a much better deal than Kawhi for Kuzma, Ingram and picks. The only other consideration would be if LeBron makes this a condition for his signing. Then I can see how LeBron and Kawhi makes sense to gut the team.

In any other scenario I would prefer ADDING talent, not exchanging talent and get marginally better.

lol stein. LFR is right. lakers aren't the ones who are desperate in this particular situation. they're still scared that george walks into the lakers' cap space, killing motivation for other suitors to trade for leonard.

that said: IF kawhi was really the key to getting both george and lebron, guaranteed, i'd pretty much sell the entire team, save one young guy. HOWEVA, i don't think the premise is true at all, and it's too big a risk to take PRIOR to FA beginning. if this was next week, and moves could actually be made and agreed to, this would have more steam in my mind.

right now, it seems like something SA wants to be true.
